"I Work at Samsung Electronics"—Even That Boast Didn't Save the Date… A Look at What Makes a Popular Guy

[Edaily Reporter KWON HYE-ME ] An analysis has found that even among people of the same gender with identical profiles, the level of interest they receive on dating apps varies depending on how their profiles are structured.

On the 26th, “Blit,” a dating app for office workers operated by Blind, released the results of an analysis of usage data from approximately 300,000 domestic office worker subscribers from January to September of this year. According to the findings, even among users with similar social backgrounds—such as occupation—the responses they receive from potential matches can vary depending on how they structure their profiles.

Blit is a workplace- and occupation-verified dating app launched in 2021, with a cumulative user base of 500,000.

Among male Samsung Electronics employees, members who uploaded six profile photos received approximately seven times more interest per person on average than those who uploaded only one. Members who wrote a self-introduction of 200 characters or more also received about six times more interest than those who did not write one.

Blit explained, “The difference based on the quality of the profile was greater than the popularity gap based on workplace or occupation.”

Furthermore, the impact of performance-based bonuses on popularity was not significant. A comparison of the periods before and after the large-scale performance-based bonus payments at Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix earlier this year revealed no statistically significant changes in the popularity of employees at either company.

It was found that there are specific times when the matching success rate is higher. The time when match requests were most actively accepted on Blit was 10:00 p.m. on Sundays; the number of acceptances on Sundays was 1.2 times the average, making it the highest among all days of the week. By time of day, the acceptance rate at 10:00 p.m. was twice the average.

Communities where users can learn about others’ interests and values also influenced matching. When users requested a match after viewing a post or story, the acceptance rate was more than three times higher than when they requested a match through a standard profile. Members who completed the values questionnaire on their profile received more than twice as much interest as those who did not.

Kang Gu-min, Team Lead at Blit, said, “While outward factors such as appearance and financial status are important criteria for choosing a partner, the actual level of interest one receives varies significantly depending on how authentically they express themselves—even among users with similar conditions.”

Meanwhile, according to market research firm Business of Apps, global dating app market revenue in 2025 is projected to be approximately $6.07 billion (about 8.0542 trillion won), a slight decrease from $6.18 billion (8.2002 trillion won) in 2024.

Analysts note that as the avenues for meeting potential partners for dating and marriage diversify, the types of experiences the 20s and 30s generation can gain—and whether those experiences lead to actual relationships—are emerging as key competitive factors.
