Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Edaily will host the “Global Alternative Investment Conference at BIXPO 2026” on the 5th of next month at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do.
This conference, one of the main programs of “BIXPO (Bitgaram International Power Technology Expo) 2026” hosted by KEPCO, will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Under the theme “Tech Meets Capital: Energy Deep Tech Scale-up,” the conference will explore how to commercialize promising technologies in the energy sector and foster their growth through investment and collaboration.
Energy deep tech is a field that requires significant time and funding for technology development and must undergo proof of concept (PoC) and demonstration before commercialization. Since market entry and growth cannot be guaranteed by technological competitiveness alone, it is crucial to secure the necessary capital and collaborative foundations at each stage of growth—from initial proof of concept to commercialization, follow-up investment, and global expansion.
This conference focuses on connecting technologies held by the public sector with private investment and exploring ways for energy innovation companies to build sustainable business models.
Douglas Kang, Investment Partner at Seraya Partners, will deliver the keynote address. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Lee Jong-min, CEO of KEPCO Technology Holdings. They plan to discuss the conditions necessary for transforming public energy technologies into actual business opportunities, the role of private capital, and growth strategies linked to global investment.
The subsequent sessions will examine two themes: energy deep-tech investment and corporate growth strategies. The first session, titled “Why Energy Deep-Tech Now?”, will feature a presentation by Kim Won-bin, Director of the Infrastructure Investment Division at the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), followed by a panel discussion moderated by Park Chan-guk, a professor in the Department of Climate Change Convergence at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
The panel discussion will feature Director Kim Won-bin, Kim Jin-hwan, Head of the Real Estate and Infrastructure Team at the Private School Teachers’ Pension Fund; Woo Shin-je, CEO of Energy Infrastructure Asset Management; and Lee Yong-kwan, CEO of Bluepoint Partners. They will discuss emerging investment opportunities during the energy transition, the commercialization potential of technologies, and the conditions for growth from an investor’s perspective.
The second session, titled “The Convergence of Technology and Capital: How Are Energy Unicorns Created?”, will examine corporate scale-up strategies. Masaaki Mezaki, CEO of GPSS, will deliver a presentation sharing strategies and experiences on scaling technology into business and securing capital tailored to each growth stage.
Following this, Jeong Dong-jae, a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Energy Technology, will moderate a panel discussion. Panelists—Lee Deok-jun, CEO of D3 Jubilee Partners; Chris Lee, CFO of Amogi; and Jang Bo-yoon, CEO of Iterten—will discuss the challenges of technology commercialization and fundraising faced by energy deep-tech companies during their growth, as well as ways to foster collaboration between investors and companies.
This conference is significant in that it brings together public technology, private capital, and corporate commercialization experience to examine the growth path of energy deep tech in concrete terms.
The plan is not only to identify promising technologies but also to verify their commercial viability through pilot projects and to explore the strategies needed to expand the market through collaboration with investors.
Meanwhile, “BIXPO 2026,” hosted by KEPCO, will take place from the 4th to the 6th of next month at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju. Detailed schedules and visitor information can be found on the official BIXPO 2026 website.
