[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] “Today’s boom does not guarantee tomorrow’s competitiveness.”

Jeon Young-hyun, Vice Chairman and Head of SamsungElectronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division, emphasized the need to remain vigilant, warning against complacency despite record-breaking earnings driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor boom. Along with a sober assessment that recent improvements in performance do not signify a full recovery of technological competitiveness, he called for securing fundamental competitiveness.

On the 30th, Vice Chairman Jeon made these remarks in a commemorative address to employees ahead of SamsungElectronics’ 57th anniversary on the 1st of next month. He emphasized that since it is impossible to predict how long the semiconductor super-boom will last, the company must strengthen its competitiveness by focusing on technology and quality and secure customer trust. His message was that the company must not rest on its laurels due to short-term market conditions but instead build a business structure that remains steadfast regardless of market conditions.

Vice Chairman Jeon stated, “While our recent achievements represent significant progress, we still have a long way to go,” adding, “We must remain faithful to the fundamentals of technology and quality, build customer trust, and develop a competitive edge that remains unshaken in any environment.”

He emphasized the need to establish a business structure that remains resilient to market fluctuations. “While new growth opportunities are emerging in the semiconductor industry, centered on AI, uncertainty in the global economy and industrial environment remains high,” Vice Chairman Jeon noted. “We must closely monitor changes in demand, supply, and the investment environment and establish a system that allows us to respond swiftly and flexibly under any circumstances,” he urged. The aim is to create a business structure capable of consistently generating results without being swayed by short-term market fluctuations.

He also identified the restoration of fundamental competitiveness based on technology and quality as a key task. Vice Chairman Jeon assessed, “Although recent performance has improved, it is difficult to say that our technological competitiveness has fully recovered,” adding, “We still have a long way to go.” In particular, he emphasized the need to prepare technologies and products capable of proactively responding to changes in next-generation computing architectures and to secure the capabilities to create new markets.

He emphasized, “We must not lose sight of the fundamentals of the semiconductor industry: securing next-generation technological competitiveness, enhancing manufacturing efficiency, ensuring flawless quality, and improving yield,” adding, “A ‘leapfrog lead’ is not merely a declaration or slogan; it must be proven through technological competitiveness and quality recognized by customers—qualities that no one can match.”

He also stressed that it is precisely during a semiconductor boom that the company must further solidify its relationship of trust with customers. Former Vice Chairman Jeon stated, “The stronger the boom, the more humble we must be,” adding, “We must never make unreasonable demands of customers or assert a position of superiority simply because of the boom.” He continued, “While a boom is temporary and market conditions can change at any time, customer trust is the foundation of sustainable competitiveness that must be maintained in any environment,” and called for shared growth with customers.

He also highlighted the importance of organizational culture innovation and nurturing young talent. Vice Chairman Jeon outlined the five core values pursued by the DS Division—customer, technology, collaboration, execution, and ethics—and emphasized the need to establish a culture of communication that transcends organizational boundaries and decision-making grounded in data and facts. He promised, “We will actively support young talent so they can realize their dreams and grow into world-class experts.”
