[Edaily Reporter kyoungeun kim ] On the morning of the 2nd, the KOSPI is holding up relatively well, falling by just over 1% despite the aftershocks of last weekend’s sell-off in AI stocks on the U.S. market.

According to MP Doctor, as of 9:04 a.m., the KOSPI is trading at 5,646.52, down 84.22 points (1.47%) from the previous trading day.

Earlier, on the 30th (local time), U.S. stock markets closed sharply lower as concerns over AI investment and demand grew due to Amazon’s (-1.4%) deteriorating free cash flow (FCF), Intel’s (-28.6%) downward guidance revision, and Kioxia’s disappointing guidance. This triggered a sell-off across the AI sector, including NVIDIA (-4.2%), AMD (-10.9%), Micron (-5.3%), SanDisk (-13.5%), and other AI stocks, leading to a sharp decline at the close.

The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 25,436.99, down 2.86% from the previous trading day. The S&P 500 index closed at 7,580.07, down 1.82%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 51,770.31, down 1.09%. The Nasdaq 100 plunged 3.46%, falling more than 10% from its recent intraday high

Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, said, “Last Friday’s sharp decline in AI stocks—including semiconductor and hardware companies in South Korea and the U.S.—seems excessive relative to changes in earnings and profit forecasts, so there is room for bargain-hunting to emerge.” However, she added, “We need to keep in mind that volatility could increase this week as we navigate a series of major events.” She added, “A fundamental recovery in investor sentiment depends on the extent to which concerns about the AI industry can be alleviated.”

Jeong Da-un, an analyst at LS SECURITIES, said, “While confidence in pinpointing the exact timing of a short-term bottom has waned, the current price level remains an attractive buying opportunity because the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy safety net will kick in even if further shocks occur.” He added, “Rather than trying to predict the exact timing of the bottom and reacting accordingly, this is the time to trust the policy safety net and the value of the current prices.”

In the stock market, institutional investors are single-handedly propping up the index with net purchases of 77.8 billion won. In contrast, retail investors and foreign investors are net sellers by 41.9 billion won and 35.6 billion won, respectively. There are 256 gainers and 537 losers.

Most of the top market-cap stocks are down. SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 218,000 won, down 3.11%, and SK hynix(000660)is trading at 1,407,000 won, down 0.78%.

In addition, HyundaiMotor(005380)(-3.19%), SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)(-2.69%), Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(-2.77%), KB Financial Group(105560)(-2.12%), LG Energy Solution(373220)(-1.81%), SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(-1.95%), SKSQUARE(402340)(-1.23%), and SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(-0.75%) are all down.

At this time, the KOSDAQ is trading at 718.50, down 5.88 points (0.81%). Foreign investors are net buyers of 17.3 billion won, while retail and institutional investors are net sellers of 9.6 billion won and 3.3 billion won, respectively. There are 478 gainers and 1,023 losers.

The top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are showing mixed performance. EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)(+1.80%), SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)(+1.76%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(+0.45%), and JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(+0.30%) are rising. On the other hand, Rainbow Robotics(277810)(-2.34%), HLB INC.(028300)(-2.13%), ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(-1.39%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(-1.32%), and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(-0.18%) are falling.
