"The Miracle of a Small-Scale Idol Group": Lisenne Faces the Test of Its Fandom’s Support… Comeback Results Draw Attention
First Physical Album Release Since Digital Track's Resurgence
Rising Recognition Driven by Popularity of Original Content
Focus on Album Sales and New Song Chart Performance
[Edaily Reporter KIM HYUNSIK ] The girl group RESCENE, which has garnered attention as the “miracle of the indie scene,” is returning with a new album. As this marks their first physical album release since boosting their profile through a resurgence on music charts and the success of their original content, all eyes are on the outcome of this comeback. (Photo courtesy of The Muse Entertainment)According to the music industry on the 2nd, RESCENE will release their fourth mini-album, “PULSE,” at 6:00 p.m. on the 3rd via various online music platforms. The album features a total of five tracks, including the title track “With,” as well as “Finest Thing,” “Dragon,” “Inside Out,” and “MEME.” Lissene is a five-member girl group debuted by The Muse Entertainment in March 2024. Composed of Won-i, Liv, Minami, May, and Jenna, the group has seen a surge in popularity this year after becoming the center of online buzz. The catalyst for their rising popularity was their original content. The members’ unique personalities began to gain recognition through leader Won-i’s personal YouTube channel, “Hello, I’m Won-i. Nice to Meet You” (Anwonjalbu). In particular, Minami’s exclamation “Geoje, Yaho!” went viral as a catchphrase, further fueling interest in the group. This heightened online interest translated into success on the music charts. Their 2024 single “LOVE ATTACK” went viral through word of mouth and successfully climbed back up the charts. The song reached No. 1 on the Melon Top 100 chart last July. Lysenne continued its upward momentum with “Pretty Girl,” a KARA remake released that same month, which reached No. 2 on the Melon Top 100. (Photo: The Muse Entertainment)
The popularity of their original content also continues to grow. The Chuseok special trot medley video released by member Jena last September achieved an impressive feat, surpassing 20 million views on YouTube in a single day. This comeback is significant as a test of Lisenne’s fandom strength. It marks Lisenne’s first physical album release in about a year, following the release of their third mini-album “Lip Bomb” last November. This is their first album since significantly boosting their public recognition through the popularity of “Love Attack” and “Pretty Girl.” While music chart rankings and YouTube views serve as indicators of public interest, physical album sales are a measure of a fandom’s purchasing power and cohesion. This raises curiosity about just how solid a fanbase Lisenne has built over the past year. According to Hanteo Chart data, first-week sales (sales within the first week of release) for their previous album, “Lip Balm,” totaled approximately 100,000 copies. Given that this was already considered a strong performance for a girl group under a small-to-medium-sized agency at the time, it will be interesting to see how much higher they can raise the bar with this new release. The digital performance of “With,” the album’s title track, is also worth watching. If they can achieve success with a new song—beyond the resurgence of their previous tracks and the popularity of their remakes—it will serve as proof of their competitiveness to sustain this upward momentum. It remains to be seen whether Lisenne, which has grown by leveraging online buzz, can further solidify its position in the music industry through this promotional campaign. Lissene is scheduled to hold a media showcase on the day of the album’s release to introduce their new songs and promotional plans.
