[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] Celltrion(068270)has launched three new biosimilars in Brazil, expanding its local product portfolio to 10 items. The company plans to leverage the sales network it has built through its existing products to help the new products gain a foothold in the market and increase prescriptions.

Bone Disease Treatment 'Stovoclo'

Celltrion announced on the 5th that it launched the autoimmune disease treatment “Koivolma” (active ingredient: ustekinumab) and the bone disease treatments “Stovoclo” and “Osenvelt” (active ingredient: denosumab) in Brazil last month.

The newly launched products include 45 mg and 90 mg pre-filled syringe (PFS) formulations and a 130 mg vial formulation of Koivolma, a 60 mg PFS formulation of Stoboclo, and a 120 mg vial formulation of Osenvelt.

Koivolma is a product sold under the brand name “Stekima” in major global markets; in Brazil, the product name was changed to reflect local linguistic characteristics. It is approved for indications such as plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis.

Celltrion plans to leverage the sales foundation and local network it has built through its existing products to facilitate the market entry of these new products. Since most of the hospitals and clinics targeted by Koivolma, Stovoclo, and Osenvelt already have experience using existing Celltrion products, the company expects this to help expand prescriptions for the new products.

Existing products have secured a certain level of market share in Brazil. According to Celltrion, “Remsima” (active ingredient: infliximab), a treatment for autoimmune diseases, holds approximately a 50% market share in Brazil’s private healthcare market. The market shares of “Herzuma” (active ingredient: trastuzumab), a treatment for breast and stomach cancer, and “Truxima” (active ingredient: rituximab), a treatment for blood cancer, also stand at approximately 40% and 30%, respectively.

With this launch, the number of Celltrion products sold in Brazil has increased to a total of 10. In the autoimmune disease sector, the company has now secured a product portfolio that includes ustekinumab in addition to the existing infliximab, adalimumab, and omalizumab. Celltrion plans to enhance sales and marketing synergies between existing and new products and drive revenue growth through this expansion of its product portfolio.

The launch of follow-up products is also scheduled. Celltrion is preparing to launch “Idenzelt” (active ingredient: aflibercept), a treatment for ophthalmic diseases, and “Aptozma” (active ingredient: tocilizumab), a treatment for autoimmune diseases, by the end of the year. With the launch of Idenzelt, the company plans to expand its business scope in Brazil to include ophthalmic diseases.

A Celltrion official stated, “Building on the customer network and trust we’ve established in Brazil through our existing products, we plan to drive the early market penetration and increased prescribing of Koivolma, Stovoclo, and Osenbelt.” The official added, “We will also proceed smoothly with the launch of follow-up products such as Idenzelt and Aptozma to further accelerate growth in the Latin American market, including Brazil.”
