“The Remarried Empress” is a romantic fantasy epic that follows “Nabie” (Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Dongdae Empire, who is served divorce papers by Emperor “Sobiesh” (Joo Ji-hoon)—who has fallen for the runaway slave “Rasta” (Lee Se-young). Instead of accepting the divorce, she demands permission to remarry Prince “Heinri” (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.
According to Disney+, “The Empress of Remarriage” became the most-watched Disney+ local original content globally within the first three days following its release on November 3.
It is also causing an overwhelming sensation, ranking No. 1 among Korean titles released in over 50 markets worldwide, including the U.S., the U.K., France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Chile, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), and Canada. “The Remarried Empress,” which garnered explosive interest immediately upon its release, achieved record-breaking results in just three days, leaving a strong impression on the global content market.
Based on the popular web novel and webtoon of the same name, “The Remarried Empress” garnered attention even before its release thanks to its star-studded cast—including Shin Min-a, Joo Ji-hoon, Lee Se-young, and Lee Jong-suk—and its romance-fantasy genre. Set against the backdrop of a fictional empire, the series—which explores the unconventional premise of an empress’s divorce and remarriage—has resonated with global audiences, raising anticipation as to whether the original works’ popularity will translate into the live-action series’ success.
Having officially kicked off the story, “The Remarried Empress” promises an even more intense narrative, ranging from the new romance between Navié and Heinrich to the conflicting desires of Sobiesh and Rasta.
“The Remarried Empress” has released its first four episodes so far, with two episodes airing every Wednesday for a total of 10 episodes.
