[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh-seok] #Solus Advanced Materials announced on the 15th that its stock price has been on an upward trend recently, riding on expectations of growth in the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) markets. As sentiment surrounding the expansion of global battery demand improves, investor interest in the battery foil (copper foil) business is also on the rise.

According to data from the Korea Exchange, institutional investors net purchased 417,440 shares of Solus Advanced Materials over the three trading days from the 10th to the 12th. The stock price also rose for four consecutive trading days starting on the 9th, climbing approximately 26.5% from a closing price of 9,820 won on the 8th to 12,420 won on the 12th. This performance is more than three times the KOSPI’s gain (approximately 8.5%) over the same period.
The market views the outlook for the battery foil industry as being driven by expectations that demand for energy storage systems (ESS) will increase alongside the expansion of global EV adoption and the construction of additional artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Battery foil is a core material used as the anode current collector in EV and large-scale ESS batteries, and its growth potential increases as its range of applications diversifies. In particular, with the rapid expansion of large-scale data centers for AI computing, power infrastructure expansion and ESS investment are expected to grow in tandem.
Solus Advanced Materials has secured the only production base in Europe through its battery foil plant in Hungary and is establishing a global supply system by developing its Canadian plant into the first battery foil production hub in North America. Amid the trend toward supply chain localization in the U.S. and Europe, the company’s ability to produce and supply locally is cited as a key competitive advantage.
A company official stated, “The mid- to long-term growth of the electric vehicle market and the increase in ESS demand driven by the expansion of AI data centers will be key factors in the growth of the battery foil market,” adding, “Based on our production hubs in Europe and North America, we will actively respond to global customer demand and continuously strengthen our market competitiveness.”
