Nongshim’s “Yukpo-kkang” Sells 1 Million Packets in Just One Week After Launch

New Products in the “Kang” Series Prove a Hit Production Expanded to Include the Gumi Plant

[Edaily Reporter SIN SOO-JUNG ] Nongshim(004370)announced on the 22nd that sales of its new product, “Yukpo Kkang,” launched on the 8th, surpassed 1 million packs within just one week of its release. Following the success of “Moktae Kkang” in 2023, this new addition to the “Kkang” series—which targets the demand for snacks enjoyed with drinks—appears to have achieved early success.

“Yukpo Kkang” is available through both online and offline channels, including large supermarkets, convenience stores, and e-commerce platforms. Initial demand remains strong, with some retailers experiencing shortages and the product even appearing on secondhand marketplaces.

Nongshim is expanding its production lines to meet the increased demand. In addition to its existing plants in Busan and Asan, the company plans to begin producing Yukpo Kkang at its Gumi plant as well.

Yukpo Kkang was developed based on consumer ideas. The concept for this beef jerky snack, which emerged from a collaborative product planning project Nongshim conducted with consumers in 2024, has now been brought to market.

The product is characterized by its ability to capture the savory flavor of beef jerky in snack form. It features a beef-based flavor enhanced with chili peppers and black pepper to create a spicy taste. Nongshim explained that Yukpo-kkang targets the demand for adult-oriented snacks, such as those enjoyed with beer.

While “Moktae-kkang” previously expanded the market for snack-style drinking accompaniments, “Yukpo-kkang” represents an example of expanding the product lineup by incorporating dried beef into a snack format. The brand recognition of the “Kkang” series—which has continued since the launch of “Saeu-kkang” in 1971—is also believed to have influenced initial sales.

A Nongshim spokesperson said, “Yukpo Kkang has been popular since its launch by harmoniously combining the flavor of beef jerky—a beloved drinking snack—with the mass appeal of snacks,” adding, “We plan to continue making various attempts to expand the scope of the snack market in order to broaden consumers’ culinary experiences.”
