[E-Daily Reporter Han Kwangbeom ] SamsungElectronics(005930)has partnered with the Ministry of Employment and Labor to build a system aimed at preventing heat-related illnesses among outdoor workers during the summer.
SamsungElectronics announced on the 6th that it has enhanced the “Heat Stress Management System,” developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, to help prevent heat-related illnesses among outdoor workers and others vulnerable to extreme heat.
Developed under the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s leadership, the “Heat Stress Management System” is one of the core features of the “SmartThings Pro Safety Management Solution,” which utilizes the AI B2B solution “SmartThings Pro” and the “Galaxy Watch” LTE model to support worker safety management in a cloud environment.
Launched in September 2025, the “SmartThings Pro Safety Management Solution” is characterized by its ability to integrate environmental data—such as temperature and humidity at industrial sites—with workers’ biometric data, including heart rate and activity levels, to provide personalized management features.
In particular, this latest enhancement actively incorporates the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s tiered heatwave response guidelines and industrial safety policy directions into the solution. It is designed to predict heat-related risks for on-site workers in advance, enabling a swift response to hazardous situations.
In actual field settings, the solution measures workers’ perceived temperature in real time based on temperature and humidity. Alerts are automatically triggered on the administrator’s dashboard according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s tiered heatwave work suspension criteria: a heatwave advisory for perceived temperatures of 33 degrees or higher, a heatwave warning for 35 degrees or higher, and a severe heatwave warning for 38 degrees or higher. Upon receiving these alerts, managers can send notifications to workers’ Galaxy Watches advising them to be cautious of heat-related illnesses and recommending that they take a break. This solution is currently being used at the construction site for a new semiconductor production line at the Pyeongtaek Campus to help prevent heat-related illnesses among workers.
SamsungElectronics and the Ministry of Employment and Labor also collaborated with Incheon National University and Samsung Seoul Hospital to improve the solution’s reliability and predictive performance.
Together with the Incheon National University research team, they refined algorithms for predicting and detecting heat stress based on individual data. The system integrates and analyzes personal physical information—such as height, weight, gender, and age—along with work environment data and heart rate patterns to predict core body temperature in real time and provide alerts based on risk levels. Additionally, through joint clinical validation with the Samsung Seoul Hospital Data Science Research Institute, the team verified the consistency between physical responses during heat stress situations and the algorithm’s predictions, thereby enhancing the solution’s reliability.
Through this enhancement, both parties plan to present a public-private partnership-based wearable industrial safety model and contribute to supporting worker safety at industrial sites during the summer.
Previously, SamsungElectronics’ SmartThings Pro obtained “ISO 27001” certification—the international standard for information security management systems established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)—last month, demonstrating a high level of security operations.
