[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) is partnering with LG Uplus(032640)to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice spam detection and blocking system.
KISA announced on the 7th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG Uplus at the LG Uplus Magok headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to strengthen measures against voice spam. (Photo courtesy of KISA) KISA analyzes spam reporting and detection data to prevent harm to the public caused by illegal spam. It also operates a “spam-sending number blocking system” that shares frequently reported phone numbers with mobile carriers and other entities in real time to block them promptly.
This agreement was initiated to integrate KISA’s spam-sending number blocking system with the spam analysis technology of LG Uplus’s AI-based calling service, “Exio.” The goal is to more comprehensively detect and block the recently increasing number of voice spam-sending numbers.
“Exio” is an AI-based calling service launched by LG Uplus in November 2024. It provides user protection features such as voice spam risk analysis and real-time voice phishing risk detection.
Under the agreement, KISA will receive spam phone numbers analyzed and extracted by LG Uplus’s Exio spam engine. These numbers will be used for user protection measures, such as call blocking, through KISA’s spam number blocking system.
KISA will also share its annual database of approximately 15 million voice spam records with LG Uplus. This will help improve the analytical accuracy of AI-based spam engines such as Exio. The two organizations will also carry out joint public awareness campaigns to prevent damage caused by illegal spam.
Shin Dae-kyu, Head of KISA’s Digital Infrastructure Division, stated, “With the recent increase in voice spam, concerns are growing that it could lead to crimes affecting people’s livelihoods, such as voice phishing.” He added, “KISA will continue to strengthen cooperation with private companies, including telecommunications providers, to establish a sophisticated system for detecting and blocking illegal spam and to prevent harm to the public.”
