According to the Financial Times (FT), the four major hyperscalers—Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Amazon—are projected to invest approximately $725 billion (about 1,100 trillion won) in AI infrastructure in 2026 alone. This represents a 77% increase from the previous year, indicating that the expansion of AI infrastructure, centered on data centers, is proceeding at a rapid pace.
This surge in investment is elevating data centers to the status of critical national strategic infrastructure. Market research firm Synergy Research estimates that the number of hyperscale data centers worldwide has already surpassed 1,200, while McKinsey forecasts that demand will expand to about three times current levels by 2030.
In this context, data center security is rapidly evolving beyond simple access control into a high-trust infrastructure market. Large data centers feature hundreds to thousands of access control points, requiring an integrated security system covering all critical areas, such as server rooms, GPU clusters, and power and cooling facilities.
In particular, as complex threats combining cyberattacks and physical intrusions increase, the importance of identity verification and access rights management is becoming even more prominent. The FBI also recently emphasized, through its recommendations, the need for an integrated approach to physical and cyber security, including visitor identity verification and the implementation of multi-factor authentication systems.
Amid this trend, UNION biometrics is entering the AI data center market by leveraging its biometric-based integrated security technology. The company has ensured the reliability of identity verification required in high-security environments by combining multi-modal biometric technology—which integrates facial, fingerprint, and iris recognition—with anti-forgery technology.
In particular, the company is recognized for implementing a structure well-suited for data center security by performing authentication and anti-spoofing functions in real time at the edge device level through edge AI-based biometric technology. This serves as a competitive advantage in AI infrastructure environments that simultaneously demand authentication accuracy, operational stability, and system interoperability.
Following the supply of biometric access control systems to major domestic IDCs (data centers), UNION biometrics is expanding its track record by participating in global AI data center projects in North America and Europe. It is reported that, following a project to build an AI data center in France, the company plans to supply security systems to a 350MW hyperscale data center in New Jersey, USA.
The company’s experience in national research and development (R&D) projects and its patents further underscore the reliability of its technology. Through a project commissioned by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, the company secured biometric anti-spoofing technology for high-security facilities, which is evaluated as being applicable to critical infrastructure such as data centers.
Industry experts predict that, alongside the proliferation of AI infrastructure, the biometric-based integrated security market will enter a phase of medium- to long-term growth. UNION biometrics also plans to expand its presence in the high-reliability physical security market based on its implementation experience and proprietary technology.
An industry official stated, “With the proliferation of AI infrastructure, security standards for data centers are rising from simple access control to encompass identity verification, access rights management, and operational stability,” adding, “Companies equipped with edge AI-based biometric technology and data center deployment experience will secure a competitive edge in the high-reliability physical security market going forward.”
