This certification relates to the B777 retrofit project that AeroSpace Technology of Korea, Inc. secured in 2022 from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a state-owned defense contractor, and covers a total of 6,395 items. The company explained that this certification covers an exceptionally wide range of items compared to typical cases in the domestic aviation industry, where PMA certification usually applies to only 1 to 10 items. Through this certification, AeroSpace Technology of Korea, Inc. has simultaneously demonstrated its capability to manufacture large-scale aircraft parts to high quality standards and its ability to meet certification requirements. The IAI project for which AeroSpace Technology of Korea, Inc. obtained PMA certification falls under the aircraft modification, maintenance, and overhaul (MRO) sector. Unlike the company’s existing business—which involves manufacturing and delivering parts according to customer requirements—this is a high-value-added project that requires compliance with both design and manufacturing certifications. Since winning the contract in 2022, AeroSpace Technology of Korea, Inc. has continuously worked to secure production technology, conduct technical verification to meet certification requirements, and establish manufacturing and quality assurance systems. An AeroSpace Technology of Korea, Inc. official stated, “We have been making full-scale deliveries since last year,” adding, “We expect this certification to further accelerate our business expansion in the aircraft modification MRO sector.”
