[Edaily Reporter Hyera Lee ] SG CO., LTD.(255220)announced on the 9th that it is expanding its construction portfolio by continuing to supply “EcoSteelAscon,” a highly durable paving material made from steel slag, for major road maintenance projects in Seoul. Graph showing the status of general road repairs in Korea by year. As demand for maintenance has grown due to increased damage caused by road aging, the importance of high-durability paving technologies and eco-friendly paving materials based on steelmaking slag, such as EcoSteel Ascon, has risen. (Photo = SG CO., LTD., Data = Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) SG CO., LTD.’s EcoSteel Asphalt is one of the core technologies applied in the “Seoul-type” road paving standard model promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It is characterized by the use of steelmaking slag as aggregate, which reduces plastic deformation and cracking compared to conventional asphalt while enhancing durability. According to Seoul Metropolitan Government statistics, the number of potholes reported in Seoul from January to November of last year was 18,948, a 26.6% decrease compared to the five-year average of 25,816. Starting with a pilot project on the central bus-only lane of Yanghwa-daero in 2022, SG CO., LTD. has applied the product to major arterial roads in Seoul, including Sinchon Intersection, Sejong-daero, and Hangang-daero, and is continuing to supply it this year for maintenance projects on Hangang-daero, Seongsan-ro, Sinchon-ro, SamIl-daero, and the Dongbu Arterial Road. According to a survey by the Korean Road Society, no potholes formed on the pilot section of Yanghwa-daero even after heavy rainfall, and the pavement maintained its initial performance level nine months after construction. Furthermore, a 30-year life cycle cost (LCC) analysis by the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade found that the service life of the high-durability pavement was 15.3 years—approximately 2.3 times longer than that of standard pavement—and estimated that maintenance costs could be reduced by about 57.4%. SG CO., LTD. announced that, based on its construction track record in Seoul, it plans to expand its scope of application to the public infrastructure market, including local governments nationwide and national industrial complexes.
