[Edaily Reporter Park Sun-Yeop ] HANWHA SOLUTIONS is trading higher in early trading after announcing business results related to a major renewable energy project in the U.S. According to MP Doctor on the 10th, HANWHA SOLUTIONS(009830)is trading at 32,100 won as of 9:06 a.m. today, up 1,300 won (4.22%) from the previous trading day. This is believed to be due to news that HANWHA SOLUTIONS’ Q CELLS division (Hanwha Q CELLS) has taken on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for “Atlas Energy Park”—considered one of the largest renewable energy projects in the U.S.—and has even completed the sale of some solar power plant assets, which has boosted investor sentiment. Hanwha Q CELLS announced today that it is carrying out the EPC for Atlas Energy Park, which is being developed in La Paz County, Arizona, and that it recently completed the sale of assets for two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 357 megawatts (MW). Atlas Energy Park is a multi-energy complex that combines solar power with energy storage systems (ESS). It is scheduled to be developed by 2028 with a capacity of 2.8 gigawatts (GW) of solar power and 5.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of ESS. The total site area is 63.66 square kilometers, approximately 22 times the size of Yeouido. Hanwha Q CELLS is solely responsible for the EPC of 14 projects within the complex and will supply all the modules installed in the solar power plants. In particular, the two 357 MW solar power plants sold in this transaction were projects in which Hanwha Q CELLS handled everything from initial development to EPC. The company explained that this serves as a case demonstrating its capabilities in both development and construction. The company’s establishment of a local supply chain in the U.S. is also viewed positively. Hanwha Q CELLS operates the “Solar Hub,” a solar manufacturing complex in Georgia, to build its solar module supply chain. The company explained that by securing a local supply chain for energy storage system (ESS) equipment as well, it can qualify for policy benefits such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for U.S.-made equipment and the Domestic Content Bonus Credit (DCBC). Hanwha Q CELLS has been pursuing solar and ESS EPC projects in the U.S. since 2017. As of this year, the scale of EPC projects completed or underway in North America exceeds 11 GW for solar and 6 GWh for ESS. The company plans to expand its integrated renewable energy business—combining solar power and ESS—across the United States to meet the growing demand for electricity driven by the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
