This patent pertains to a disposable suturing device used in reconstructive surgery for meniscal cartilage injuries. The meniscus is a crescent-shaped piece of cartilage located within the knee joint that is often torn due to trauma during sports activities or aging.
This product is a device for suturing torn meniscus cartilage. It is designed to sequentially deploy two implants via a switch, enabling more precise surgical procedures.
The product was granted a patent in Japan last year, and the company is currently working to secure rights in major countries through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application process.
OSTEONIC Co., Ltd. plans to use this patent as an opportunity to expand its SportsMedicine product line and accelerate its expansion into the global market. The company’s SportsMedicine business has grown primarily around shoulder ligament reconstruction products, and with this new product, it is expanding its lineup to include the knee sector.
Sports medicine products are medical devices used in surgeries to reconstruct ligaments, tendons, and cartilage damaged by exercise or aging; they are classified as a high-value-added product line that utilizes biomaterials. The SportsMedicine business has been on a steady growth trajectory recently. Revenue increased by approximately 260% over the past three years, rising from 4.8 billion won in 2022 to 8.3 billion won in 2023, 10.1 billion won in 2024, and 17.3 billion won in 2025. In the first quarter of this year, the company recorded revenue of 5.6 billion won.
OSTEONIC Co., Ltd. stated, “Through this U.S. patent registration, we have secured the technological competitiveness and intellectual property rights for our knee meniscus reconstruction products,” adding, “We plan to continuously expand our sports medicine product line to strengthen our penetration of the global market.”
Meanwhile, according to DataBridge Market Research and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the global sports medicine market was estimated to be worth approximately 7.2 trillion won as of 2022.
