(Photo: MusicCow US) At 1:00 p.m. on the 10th, Jihyo released her new song “Distant Lover,” featuring Shenseea, on music streaming platforms worldwide. The song explores the concept of a “situationship”—an ambiguous relationship that is neither a romance nor a friendship—capturing the complex emotions of trying to push each other away yet ultimately being drawn together, all set to an Afrobeats sound. “Distant Lover” is a summer anthem that blends K-pop, dancehall, and Afrobeats. Jihyo’s rich, soulful vocals combined with the distinctive flow of Sensia—a two-time Grammy Award nominee—create a unique musical synergy. The two artists naturally express the tension, excitement, and emotional tug-of-war felt in an indefinable relationship, enhancing the song’s immersive quality. This collaboration is particularly significant as it marks another step in Jihyo’s global music journey. Following her appearance as a featured artist on “Heavenly”(Hvnly), and last month, she took part in “Follow Me,” the global project song for the “2026 FIFA World Cup North and Central America,” continuing her steady stream of collaborations with international artists. This track was produced as part of the “Fandom Project,” a joint initiative between MusicCow and the U.S. entertainment company Roc Nation. The project holds additional significance as it aims to introduce new music through global artist collaborations that transcend national borders and genres, while fostering closer connections between artists and fans. A MusicCow representative stated, “We are delighted to continue this meaningful project that breaks down the barriers of borders and genres, uniting global artists as one,” adding, “Through the Fandom Project, MusicCow will continue to strive to build a new music ecosystem where fans go beyond simply listening to music to truly connect with artists and share in the success of global collaborations.”
