On the 14th, SBS announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a “Strategic Media Partnership” with KOSPO at the SBS headquarters in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, stating, “This agreement was established based on mutual respect and trust between the two parties to help identify and build the brands of promising startups and to promote the development of South Korea’s innovative startup ecosystem.” The plan is to expand the foundation for startup growth and mid- to long-term business cooperation by introducing and providing SBS’s media infrastructure and marketing support programs to KOSPO member companies.
Under the agreement, SBS will: △ collaborate on media coverage of major COSPO events and the startup ecosystem; △ expand eligibility criteria and provide benefits under the “SBS Innovative SME Support Program” to COSPO member companies; and △ launch a new “Digital Content Production Support Contest” to identify outstanding startups and provide production support.
KOSPO, in turn, plans to cooperate by: △ providing opportunities for SBS to participate in major KOSPO events; △ promoting SBS support programs and marketing benefits to member companies; △ conducting a call for proposals for the digital content production support program and encouraging member companies to participate; and △ identifying key startup issues and supporting SBS’s reporting and coverage activities.
SBS CEO Bang Moon-shin stated, “SBS will serve as the broadest stage and a reliable partner so that the fruits of innovation—the result of startups’ intense deliberation—can gain recognition from the world,” adding, “As KOSPO marks its 10th anniversary and stands at the starting line for its next decade, SBS will stand alongside them in solidarity to begin a strong partnership.”
Kim Jae-won, Chairman of KOSPO, responded, “The role of the media is crucial in the process of making startups known to the world.” He continued, “We expect that the media infrastructure and support systems of SBS, Korea’s leading broadcaster, will serve as a strong foundation for the growth of KOSPO member companies, and KOSPO will also actively cooperate to ensure that the inspiring stories of K-startups are widely shared.”
The signing ceremony was attended by SBS CEO Bang Man-shin, along with Yang Yun-seok, Head of News; Park Sang-wook, Head of Production; Choi Dae-sik, Head of Policy; Jeong Ho-seon, Director of Special News; and Lim Hong-sik, Director of Business; as well as Korea Startup Forum Chairman Kim Jae-won and CEO Choi Ji-young, who gathered to celebrate the successful launch of the partnership.
Meanwhile, SBS has recently been expanding its business influence by forming various partnerships. It has begun collaborating with Dongducheon City to revitalize the local economy and signed a business agreement with Naver to advance AI-based media technology and produce video content utilizing it.
