KBS held its “2026 Third Quarter Affiliated Companies Cooperation Meeting” that day. The meeting was attended by KBS President Park Jang-beom and other headquarters executives, as well as representatives from nine affiliated companies, including KBS Media and KBS N, to present business performance results and discuss growth strategies for the second half of the year.
At the meeting, President Park pointed out to the executives, “The entire broadcasting industry is facing extremely difficult circumstances due to recent changes in the media environment, yet there seems to be a complete lack of a sense of crisis, perhaps because we operate in an environment where we have near-monopoly access to license fee revenue.”
He continued, “We expect a deficit in the 10 billion won range this year. Although the deficit has narrowed compared to last year, this is no cause for complacency,” adding, “Both the headquarters and our affiliates will implement crisis management systems.”
President Park emphasized, “Just as KBS has successfully overcome critical situations—such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) foreign exchange crisis and the ‘separate collection of license fees’—through continuous structural reforms, we must establish a new survival strategy this time as well to return to profitability.”
KBS has posted consecutive deficits for the past four years. Last year, it recorded a deficit in the 80 billion won range. In accordance with its crisis management system, KBS plans to implement company-wide budget cuts through “financial risk management.”
