[Edaily Reporter Kim Kyung-eun ] South Korea’s top two semiconductor companies, SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660), are both trading higher in early trading on the 15th. This is believed to be due to a rebound in semiconductor stocks, including SK hynix American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), on the U.S. stock market overnight.

According to MP Doctor, as of 9:03 a.m. today, SamsungElectronics is trading at 280,000 won, up 17,000 won (6.46%) from the previous trading day. SK hynix is trading at 2,097,000 won, up 84,000 won (9.62%) from the previous close.

This is seen as a positive trend stemming from gains in artificial intelligence (AI)-related semiconductor stocks on the New York Stock Exchange. SK hynix’s ADR, listed on the Nasdaq, surged by more than 27%.

In today’s market, concerns over inflation and further interest rate hikes eased as the U.S. June Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate came in below expectations.

Kim Yu-mi, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, said, “Given the recent sharp decline centered on semiconductor stocks, a technical rebound driven by the perception that the decline was excessive, along with the inflow of bargain-hunting buyers, is expected to support the index’s rebound.”

She added, “While Middle East risks remain a factor that could increase market volatility, President Trump has withdrawn his plan to impose a 20% fee on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and the possibility of negotiations remains,” “Furthermore, with U.S. consumer price inflation slowing more than expected, concerns about a resurgence of inflation and further monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve have subsided, meaning the macroeconomic pressures that triggered the recent stock market correction have eased in the short term,” he analyzed.

However, he added, “For this rebound to lead to a sustained recovery in semiconductor stocks, we need more than just a recognition that the decline was excessive; we need confirmation of earnings related to AI investment and memory demand,” noting that “the future earnings of U.S. Big Tech companies and their AI capital expenditure plans are expected to be key variables in determining the sustainability of semiconductor demand.”
