APR announced on the 26th that it had held the “Kickoff Meeting for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Semiconductor Advanced Industry Technology Development Project.” The meeting was organized to share the phased objectives and overall direction and plans for the project, which is being promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The event was attended by Shin Jae-woo, Head of APR’s R&D Center; Park Dong-hee, Head of APR’s Technology Research Lab and project leader; as well as representatives from participating institutions, including domestic university research institutes and government-funded research institutes.
APR was selected as the lead organization for the project last month and will carry out the project for a total of four years, through 2029, in collaboration with major participating institutions. The consortium will receive a total of 7.6 billion won in funding.
The core objective of this project is to internalize the key components and system technologies that determine the competitiveness of beauty devices. As part of this effort, the consortium plans to conduct research on system semiconductors—a key technological element that determines a DEVICE’s output stability, miniaturization, power efficiency, safety control, and user experience.
APR plans to use its participation in this government-funded project as an opportunity to expand the product development capabilities it has accumulated in the beauty device sector into the fields of semiconductors and core proprietary technologies. Through this, the company aims to reduce its reliance on external components and establish a K-BeautyTech technology platform that integrates semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and hardware. Future development outcomes will be expanded to include not only home-care devices for personal use and professional-grade equipment but also core module platforms for beauty devices.
An APR official stated, “Being selected for this project is highly significant as it signifies external recognition of the beauty device expertise APR has accumulated,” adding, “Through collaboration with domestic research institutes and universities, we will internalize core BeautyTech technologies and secure differentiated technological competitiveness in the global market.”
