[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] The “InstaView” (known as “KnockOn” in Korea) refrigerator, first introduced worldwide in 2016, has surpassed 5.3 million units in cumulative global sales. It is widely regarded as a leading technology in the premium refrigerator market thanks to its unique feature that allows users to see inside the refrigerator without opening the door.
According to LGELECTRONICS on the 26th, approximately 5.3 million InstaView refrigerators have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2016 through last month. This amounts to roughly one unit sold every minute over the past decade.
By region, North America emerged as the largest market, accounting for about 30% of total sales. The company explained that in North America—where large-capacity refrigerators and the culture of hosting home parties are well-established—the convenience of checking food contents without opening the door and the product’s design competitiveness were highly praised. In Europe as well, sales have expanded thanks to the product’s energy efficiency, reduced cold air loss, and ability to maintain food freshness. Recently, sales have also been increasing in Shinhung markets such as Asia and Latin America, driven by growing demand for premium home appliances.
InstaView is a feature that allows users to check the contents of the refrigerator without opening the door by tapping the specially coated glass door twice, which turns on the interior light. LGELECTRONICS explained that this feature has established itself as a flagship premium feature that enhances not only user convenience and cold air management performance but also design competitiveness.
The product’s competitiveness has also been confirmed by evaluations from overseas specialized media outlets and its track record of design awards. The UK-based IT publication Trusted Reviews highly praised its intuitive user experience, while the French IT outlet Le Numérique highlighted its design, temperature maintenance, and energy efficiency as key strengths. The InstaView refrigerator has won major global design awards, including the Red Dot, iF, and IDEA awards, as well as the CES Innovation Award.
An analysis of global customer reviews by LGELECTRONICS revealed that while initial feedback focused primarily on functionality and the effectiveness of reducing cold air loss, positive reactions to the sleek design and user experience have increased recently.
Kim Jae-il, Head of LGELECTRONICS’ Kitchen Solutions Business Division, said, “Just as the ‘tap-to-open’ feature of the LG InstaView refrigerator has led a shift in how people use refrigerators, we will continue to make customers’ dining experiences more convenient and enjoyable based on AI and innovative refrigeration and storage technologies.”
