Right in the heart of Seoul, near City Hall Station, stands a bright blue shipping container that helps people forget the sweltering heat. Stepping inside the container, the humidity drops dramatically, leaving you feeling fresh and dry. This is thanks to the dehumidifying, ventilating, and air-purifying unit from KYUNGDONGNAVIEN(009450), which manages the humidity inside the container.

The KYUNGDONGNAVIEN “Emergency Breathing Center,” which this reporter recently visited, is an experiential space designed to prescribe “comfortable air” and “restful sleep” to office workers exhausted by work and daily life.

Options include “Feeling suffocated by excessive work” and “Sighing is breathing.” I became curious about what the results would be if I selected these. After choosing some of the amusing options, I was diagnosed with “Inhalation-Exhalation Syndrome.” The explanation states that this type of person dreams of financial wealth when inhaling and of leaving work on time (leaving promptly) when exhaling.

In the “Social Cueing Test,” you must look at the words pointed out by the on-site manager and infer what answer the manager is looking for. For example, if you select the words “commute” and “meeting,” you must infer that you’ll need “fresh air” going forward, and that to breathe fresh air, you should turn on a Navien dehumidifying ventilation air purifier—that’s how you figure out their intent.
Since the dehumidifying ventilation air purifier is a product related to respiratory health, there is also a segment where visitors’ lung capacity is tested. Taking advantage of a lull when the treatment room was empty, I lay down on it for about a minute. It felt much drier than at home, and I didn’t feel the sticky, muggy sensation typical of summer. Based on breathing patterns, it reports how much of the 30-minute session was spent in deep sleep and how long it took to fall asleep. It also automatically adjusts the temperature according to each sleep stage. As I explored these various features, I was overcome by the temptation to simply drift off to sleep right there. But, mindful that I had work to finish, I put my disappointment aside and got up.
