[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] LG Uplus(032640)has set out to strengthen its competitiveness in content subscriptions. As the first mobile carrier to launch a bundled package combining Kyobo Book Centre’s e-book subscription service with digital magazines, the company is accelerating its push into the reading content market.
LG Uplus announced on the 19th that it has unveiled a new subscription package through its “U-Dock” platform, combining Kyobo Book Centre’s e-book subscription service “sam” with its digital magazine service “Moajin.”
This package is designed to eliminate the hassle of subscribing to e-books and magazines separately, allowing users to conveniently enjoy a variety of reading content with a single subscription. This marks the first time a mobile carrier has introduced a subscription package combining e-books and digital magazines.

The service is offered at 9,900 won per month—a discount of approximately 60% off the regular price of 24,900 won. To celebrate the launch, customers will receive an additional 5,000-won discount coupon through the end of August, allowing them to use the service for as low as 4,900 won per month.
With the recent increase in users who consume both reading and informational content, demand for bundled subscription services is on the rise. According to the “2024 Reading Culture Statistics” from the Korea Institute for Publishing and Reading Policy, the e-book usage rate among adults stood at 37.5%, while the usage rate for magazines and webzines was 34.9%.
Kyobo Bookstore’s “sam” is a subscription service that offers approximately 800,000 e-books, as well as audiobooks, videos, and academic papers. “Moajin” provides access to over 2,400 domestic and international digital magazines covering current affairs, economics, and lifestyle. This lineup includes specialized economics and business magazines such as Dong-A Business Review (DBR), Maekyung Economy, Economy Chosun, Hankyung Business, and Harvard Business Review (HBR), actively targeting office workers and those seeking self-improvement.
LG Uplus plans to continue expanding its collaboration with content providers to steadily increase its lineup of bundled subscription products and further strengthen personalized subscription services tailored to customers’ consumption patterns.
Cho Yong-sung, Executive Vice President in charge of Partnership Business at LG Uplus, stated, “We designed this service to bundle e-books and magazines into a single subscription, allowing customers to access a wealth of content at a lower cost,” adding, “We will continue to steadily expand our lineup of differentiated bundled subscription products tailored to customers’ interests and lifestyles.”
