[Edaily Reporter Hyera Lee ] GIGALANE Co., Ltd.(049080)announced on the 20th that it has been awarded a contract from KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES (KARI) for the “Development and Production of Prototypes for Space-Grade RF Connectors and Cable Components” as part of the “Domestic Development Project for Component-Level Space Parts.” Image related to the GIGALANE Co., Ltd. project. (Photo = GIGALANE Co., Ltd.) This contract was signed following a technical evaluation and priority negotiation process conducted by KARI, and the contract value is 2.7 billion won. The project is scheduled for completion on December 15, 2029. The development targets include space-grade RF connectors, RF cables, and RF cable assemblies for use in satellites and space systems. The objective is to ensure stable signal transmission and connection reliability even in the space environment. The goal is to develop high-reliability components capable of maintaining performance over the long term in environments involving heat, vibration, radiation, and vacuum. Until now, South Korea has relied on overseas-certified products for space-grade RF connectors and cable assemblies, and challenges such as long lead times, high costs, and supply chain risks have been identified. Through this project, GIGALANE Co., Ltd. plans to localize space-grade RF connectors, RF cables, and RF cable assemblies—which have traditionally depended on overseas products—using purely domestic technology. The development scope includes 38 types of RF connector and cable components and 7 types of RF cable assemblies. By applying a design, manufacturing, and test verification system meeting ESCC or MIL standards, the company aims to ensure quality suitable for installation in flight models. GIGALANE Co., Ltd. plans to establish a design, manufacturing, verification, and quality management system for space-grade RF components and secure a product lineup and mass production supply base applicable to future satellites and spacecraft. A GIGALANE Co., Ltd. official stated, “Space-grade RF connectors and cable assemblies are core foundational technologies that can be expanded not only to satellites but also to the defense, aviation, high-reliability communications equipment, and extreme-environment industries,” adding, “Building on this contract, we will develop a high-reliability RF component platform capable of entering the global space components market.”
