Dexter studios Co., Ltd.(206560)At the event held in Los Angeles, the company presented “Motion-Faithful Denoising for Dynamic Facial Scan Sequences.” This technology is designed to reduce noise in 4D facial scan data used in VFX production while preserving the actor’s subtle facial expressions and facial details. 4D facial scanning is a technology that captures an actor’s facial expressions in 3D dozens of times per second to generate dynamic data. Previously, there was a limitation where detailed expression information was lost during the noise-reduction process; however, Dexter studios Co., Ltd. developed a “motion-adaptive bidirectional filter” that performs denoising based on the speed of facial movements, thereby preserving the actor’s performance details while maintaining continuity between frames. Dexter studios Co., Ltd. explained that this achieved a noise reduction of up to 76% compared to existing technologies. Dexter studios Co., Ltd. was the first company in Korea to independently develop 4D facial scanning equipment and an operating system, which it utilizes for the production of digital humans in films and TV dramas. Recently, the company also obtained a patent for 4D facial scan data editing technology that allows for precise adjustments to facial expressions while preserving the actor’s head movements. Since 2015, Dexter studios Co., Ltd. has been continuously presenting its research achievements—including digital humans, its proprietary software “ZENN,” virtual production, and VFX pipelines—at SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia, fostering global technological exchange. Song Jae-won, Director of Dexter studios Co., Ltd.’s R&D Institute, stated, “Our participation in SIGGRAPH this year demonstrates our technological competitiveness once again by sharing the technology and R&D capabilities we have accumulated through the content production process on a world-class stage.”
