[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] As the rainy season kicks into full swing, “scented household goods” that tackle both odors and humidity are continuing to sell out in the home shopping industry. With the repeated cycles of sweltering heat and torrential rain, demand is surging for fragrance-related products that can solve problems with sweat, humidity, and unpleasant indoor odors.
According to industry sources on the 21st, CJ OnStyle’s sales figures for deodorizers from the 1st to the 19th showed a 325% increase compared to the same period last month. Unlike last year, when spray-type deodorizers dominated the market, solid deodorizers—which eliminate odors simply by being placed in a room—are gaining popularity this year. The share of solid deodorizers in total deodorizer sales expanded from 12% last month to 64% this month. This is driven by increased sales of premium solid deodorizer brands such as “Piebe” and “Wip.” The “Muz x Taylor Sents” objet d’art air freshener—launched through a collaboration between Taylor Sents, the company’s in-house fragrance brand, and the National Museum of Korea Cultural Foundation—was also a hit.

GS Retail(007070)The “Herz Atelier Deodorizer,” which GS Holdings—operated by the company—began featuring last month on its data home shopping channel, GS My Shop, and on TV home shopping, also sold out during all three broadcasts. This solid deodorizer features an objet d’art design that blends seamlessly into any setting. The “S.A.F. Italian Florence Atelier Soap” from a premium Italian soap brand, which GS Holdings aired on the 15th, sold out with 2,100 orders. It attracted attention because it can be used not only for washing your face and bathing but also as an air freshener when placed in closets, drawers, or on bedside tables before use. Although a set of nine soaps was priced at 89,000 won—a relatively high price point—it achieved 188.8% of its sales target.
On LOTTE SHOPPING CO., LTD.’s flagship program, “The Choi Yu-ra Show,” “Wichik Disinfectant Fabric Softener” and “Ondasup Natural Deodorizer” ranked among July’s top-selling products. These products, which help manage laundry odors and indoor humidity during the rainy season, have each sold more than 10,000 sets so far this month. Driven by this demand, sales of deodorizers and dehumidifiers at LOTTE SHOPPING CO., LTD. have more than doubled this month compared to June.
HYUNDAI HOME SHOPPING NETWORK CORPORATION also reported that sales of deodorizers and air fresheners from the 1st to the 20th increased by about 30% compared to the same period last year. Broadcasts featuring the “Queen of the Bathroom” deodorizer set and Nanoen Doctor’s Manoa and Naeno laundry detergents and fabric softeners drew significant interest from consumers.
As the muggy weather persists, “fragrance consumption” is expanding beyond perfumes and diffusers to include everyday household items such as soap and deodorizers. A GS Holdings official stated, “Recently, when customers choose household products, they are making purchasing decisions based not only on basic functions like cleaning power and deodorizing power, but also on factors such as the type of scent, its longevity, and the psychological satisfaction the scent provides.”
