[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] “For ‘Fading Echo’ in particular, we wanted the game’s creative identity to be entirely crafted by human hands, and we made this a key principle throughout the development process.”

Sylvain Cessi, CEO of Emeteria Studio, who led the production of “Fading Echo,” made these remarks in a written interview with E-Daily on the 22nd.

*Fading Echo* is an action-adventure game developed by Emeteria Studio, a subsidiary of the French game publisher New Tales.Set in an apocalyptic world, the game follows the adventures of “One,” a young hero who wields the power of water, as he travels between the desert planet “Corel” and the “Shadows” that lie beneath it.

It was officially released on the 21st on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. #Com2uS Holdings is handling publishing in Korea and other Asian markets.

CEO Sesi stated, “AI is a very interesting technology, and we are closely watching its development,” but emphasized, “It was not used in any part of the final product, including the art, characters, backgrounds, dialogue, or music.”

The game was developed by a team that has worked at leading global game companies such as Blizzard and Ubisoft. Although Emeteria Studio was founded in late 2022, the game’s world and setting had been in development for much longer.

Water, a key element of the game, goes beyond serving merely as an attack skill or a means of movement; it interacts with environmental factors such as lava and pollution, influencing combat, movement, and puzzle-solving mechanics. The development team cited this as a key differentiator from other post-apocalyptic games.

Emmanuel Ober, Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of New Tales, said, “In terms of gameplay, we designed the game so that players can challenge themselves and experiment in various ways rather than simply searching for a predetermined solution.”

In terms of world-building, unlike dark and desolate apocalyptic works, the game depicts a space where vibrant colors, a surreal atmosphere, and vitality coexist. The development team explained that *Fading Echo* embodies the individuality and originality of creators—hallmarks of French game development culture.

Ober, the CCO, said, “I believe France has long had a culture that values the individuality and originality of game creators,” adding, “Creators often draw inspiration from various art forms—such as comics, literature, illustration, film, and games—rather than limiting themselves to a single field.”

France has recently suffered from record-breaking heatwaves due to climate change. CCO Ober noted that “Fading Echo” depicts a world where resources are scarce and where past choices continue to affect the present, adding, “This setting naturally provides an opportunity to reflect on sustainability, responsibility, and the relationship between humans and the environment.”

New Tales has selected Com2uS Holdings as its partner to launch *Fading Echo* in the Asian market. The key factors behind the agreement were Com2uS Holdings’ understanding of the game’s mechanics and world-building, as well as its alignment with the development team’s vision.

Ober, the CCO, said, “By the time the discussions were wrapping up, I got the impression that we had become partners who were thinking together about how to introduce *Fading Echo* to new users in Asia, rather than simply negotiating a publishing agreement.”

The development team viewed the growth potential and opportunities in the Korean PC and console markets very positively. They assessed that, in a domestic market previously dominated by mobile games, the number of PC and console users is increasing, and interest in distinctive single-player games is also on the rise.

Ober, the CCO, said, “We view the recent steady growth of the PC and console game market in Korea positively,” adding, “As user interest in distinctive single-player games continues to rise, we hope that ‘Fading Echo’ will meet the expectations of Korean users amid this trend.”
