[Edaily Reporter Yun Junghoon ]KTCorporation(030200)announced on the 23rd that it had signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Promote the Commercialization of Remote Driving Technology” with KIA CORPORATION(000270) and autonomous driving technology company SUEM at KIA CORPORATION’s Yangjae headquarters. Key officials attended the signing ceremony, including Seo Sang-kyu, Executive Vice President in charge of Corporate Business 1 at KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division; Kang Ju-yeop, Executive Vice President of KIA CORPORATION’s New Business Planning Office; and Hyun Young-jin, CEO of SUEM.

This agreement was established to set up a stable operational framework for implementing remote driving technology as an actual service and to identify business models applicable in both the private and public sectors. Previously, the three companies, in collaboration with relevant government agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Police Agency, conducted remote driving demonstrations on public roads in Jeju Island to verify the technology’s maturity and the feasibility of its application.

Based on this agreement, the three companies will jointly pursue the following initiatives: △ operating remote driving services using a stable communication network; △ analyzing operational data and advancing the technology; △ jointly exhibiting and demonstrating the technology at major domestic and international trade shows; △ identifying remote driving service models for the private and public sectors; and △ establishing the legal and institutional framework for remote driving.

KTCorporation will be responsible for operating the communication network, which serves as the core infrastructure for the remote driving service. Since remote driving requires seamless, real-time exchange of video and control information between vehicles and the remote control center, KTCorporation plans to provide a stable data transmission environment leveraging its wireless network operation capabilities. Additionally, KTCorporation will pre-inspect the communication quality in vehicle operating environments and key service sections, and during the actual operation phase, it will establish network quality management and fault response systems to enhance the service’s stability and reliability.

The companies will also continue to collaborate on showcasing integrated remote driving solutions at major domestic and international exhibitions. KTCorporation will pre-establish a communication environment tailored to the exhibition venue and demonstration scenarios, and through on-site network monitoring and technical support, ensure that visitors can reliably experience the remote driving service.

In the public sector, the three companies will jointly develop service models that the public can tangibly experience by combining KTCorporation’s communications and AX capabilities, KIA CORPORATION’s vehicle and mobility technologies, and SUEM’s remote driving and control technologies. They also plan to collaborate with public institutions and local governments to identify remote driving services that can be applied to areas with poor transportation access or regions in need of social infrastructure (SOC) support.

Going forward, the three companies will form a working group to develop detailed operational plans for the commercialization of remote driving technology within this year. They plan to progressively finalize details such as target regions and schedules for project implementation, measures to ensure communication quality, plans for technological advancement, participation in major exhibitions, and public service models.

Seo Sang-kyu, Senior Vice President in charge of Corporate Business 1 at KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division, stated, “For remote driving services to operate stably in real-world environments, communication infrastructure that provides a seamless connection between vehicles and control centers is essential.” He added, “Based on our 5G and LTE networks and communication operations capabilities, KTCorporation will enhance the stability and reliability of remote driving services and establish new standards for future mobility services.”
