[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] RoboRobo Co., Ltd., a company specializing in physical artificial intelligence (AI), is partnering with Rainbow Robotics(277810)to jointly develop AI-based humanoid robots capable of making independent decisions and performing tasks in industrial settings.
Tomorrow Robotics announced on the 23rd that it had signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Research, Development, and Business Cooperation on Physical AI-Based Robots” with Rainbow Robotics on the 21st. This collaboration focuses on a phased approach that extends beyond research and development to include field validation, performance improvement, customer acquisition, and commercialization. Tomorrow Robotics will apply robot foundation models, Agent AI agents, and robot operating software, while Rainbow Robotics will provide robot hardware, control, and sensor technologies.
Conventional industrial robots typically repeat motions pre-programmed by Saramin. The AI-based robots being developed by the two companies aim to recognize their surroundings and work conditions, determine the tasks to be performed, and link multiple motions to handle complex tasks.
For example, in a logistics center or manufacturing facility, a robot would recognize an object, pick it up, move it to a designated location, and then load it or operate equipment—performing this series of tasks as a single, seamless workflow. Data accumulated during actual operations and operational experience are then used to improve the performance of the AI model and the stability of robot operations.
The two companies will work together on integrating and optimizing robot hardware and AI software; identifying and validating performance through field trials in industrial settings; improving robot performance and operational stability based on field data; developing Agent AI for complex tasks and operational automation; and jointly identifying customers and commercializing solutions.
Tomorrow Robotics will be responsible for everything from analyzing work scenarios to data collection, training, and inference, as well as system integration and establishing the on-site operational environment. Rainbow Robotics will support the hardware and control interfaces of the partner robots and provide sensors, drive systems, mechanical structures, and control and safety technologies.
The collaboration will proceed in three phases. In Phase 1, the companies will integrate robot hardware with AI software, establish core interfaces, and validate initial operations. In Phase 2, they will conduct field trials in actual industrial sites or equivalent environments to improve task performance and operational stability.
In Phase 3, the feasibility of operational automation using AI agents and the application of the Workforce-as-a-Service (WaaS) business model will be evaluated. WaaS is a model in which customers utilize task-execution capabilities—combining robots, AI software, and operating systems—as a service, rather than purchasing robotic equipment directly.
During the pilot phase, the companies will comprehensively evaluate not only the robots’ ability to perform tasks but also the stability of repetitive tasks, task processing time, safety, fault tolerance, and operational convenience. Based on the pilot results, the two companies plan to refine the technology and expand their collaboration to include joint proposals, demonstrations, exhibitions, and commercial projects.
Jang Byung-tak, CEO of Tomorrow Robotics, stated, “The commercialization of Physical AI is not achieved through AI model development alone; the process of applying it to actual robots and field environments to repeatedly collect data and improve performance is crucial.” He added, “By combining Rainbow Robotics’ robot technology with Tomorrow Robotics’ robot foundation model and Agent AI technology, we will realize AI-based humanoid robots capable of working in real-world environments.”
Lee Jeong-ho, CEO of Rainbow Robotics, remarked, “For robots to perform diverse and complex tasks in industrial settings, not only must the hardware be excellent, but AI technology capable of recognizing and assessing situations must also advance in tandem.” He continued, “Through this collaboration, we will validate the technical feasibility of Rainbow Robotics’ robot platform to create new value across various industrial settings.”
Based on this agreement, the two companies plan to form a working group to define the scope of joint development and identify priority projects for implementation.
