[Edaily Marketin Kwon so hyun Reporter] WAVUS(336060), a company specializing in geographic information systems (GIS) and digital twins, announced on the 27th that it has been awarded the “Elevating Digital Vertiport Platform Construction Project” being pursued by KoreaAirportService.
Having previously carried out the KoreaAirportService’s digital vertiport platform construction project, WAVUS has secured this latest contract in quick succession, thereby strengthening its position in the future Urban Air Mobility (UAM) platform market.
A vertiport is a concept combining “vertical flight” and “port”; it is a dedicated facility for the takeoff and landing of UAM aircraft, as well as passenger boarding and disembarking, charging, and maintenance. However, existing ground-level or rooftop vertiports have been criticized for requiring large tracts of land, which limits their applicability in urban areas.
Elevated vertiports move takeoff and landing facilities vertically, similar to a mechanical parking garage or an elevator, and are regarded as next-generation UAM infrastructure capable of efficient operation even within limited urban spaces.
For this project, WAVUS will utilize digital twin technology to simulate the vertical-lift vertiport in a virtual environment and build an integrated operations platform. The key objective is to establish an operational environment that precisely manages obstacles within the city center and supports the safe and efficient takeoff and landing of UAM aircraft.
With this contract win, WAVUS has expanded its platform technology to include lift-type vertiports, building on its existing ground-level and rooftop models. The company expects to further strengthen its technological competitiveness in the field of vertiport operation platforms, which integrate the management of flight, spatial, facility, and safety information.
A WAVUS official stated, “This is a meaningful project that expands our platform scope to include lift-type vertiports, building on our experience in constructing digital vertiports,” adding, “We will continue to advance our future urban air mobility (UAM) operations platform based on digital twin and spatial information technologies to contribute to the development of the domestic UAM industry.”
WAVUS plans to leverage its digital twin and spatial information platform technologies to expand digital transformation in future mobility sectors—including airports, vertiports, and smart cities—and to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market.
