[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] Genesystem Co., Ltd(363250), a company specializing in molecular diagnostic platforms, announced on the 31st that it has acquired 100% of Kyungbo Electric’s shares and is entering the AI data center power infrastructure market.

Kyungbo Electric is a specialized company that has accumulated technical expertise in the fields of power measurement, transformation, and protection for approximately 60 years, and possesses the qualifications and track record to supply products directly to KoreaElectricPower (KEPCO) and power generation companies. Its main products include current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (PTs), metering transformers (MOFs), and protective relays.

These products are core power devices that convert high-voltage and high-current levels to measurable ranges during power transmission and distribution, and detect abnormalities in the power grid to protect equipment. They are essential for the construction of power facilities at power plants, industrial sites, and data centers, as well as for the replacement of aging power grids.

Recently, the artificial intelligence (AI) industry has been rapidly shifting from a focus on model training to a focus on inference services and Agent AI. Consequently, bottlenecks in the AI industry are expanding from high-performance semiconductors to the power infrastructure required to stably operate large-scale computing facilities.

According to an analysis by KPMG citing projections from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and others, power consumption by U.S. data centers increased from approximately 60 TWh in 2014 to 176 TWh in 2023, and is projected to expand to between 325 and 580 TWh by 2028. The share of U.S. total electricity consumption accounted for by data centers is also expected to rise from 4.4% in 2023 to between 6.7% and 12% in 2028.

Genesystem Co., Ltd. anticipates that demand for Kyungbo Electric’s power metering and protection equipment will continue to grow, driven by the expansion of AI data centers, the replacement of aging power grids, the reshoring of manufacturing, and increased investment in smart grids. In particular, the U.S. market is expected to offer expanded export opportunities for Korean power equipment companies as the replacement of aging power grids, the construction of new manufacturing facilities, and investment in AI data centers converge.

Following the acquisition, Jin System plans to strengthen production capacity for existing products based on investments in Kyungbo Electric’s production and R&D facilities, and to expand its business into next-generation digital protection relays, power monitoring systems, and the smart grid sector.

Park Seong-young, CEO of Genesystem Co., Ltd, stated, “This acquisition marks the starting point for Genesystem Co., Ltd’s leap forward as an energy and power equipment company,” adding, “By combining Kyungbo Electric’s 60 years of manufacturing expertise with Genesystem Co., Ltd’s growth strategy and capital market capabilities, we will nurture the company into a core supplier of materials, parts, and equipment for the AI power supercycle era through systematic post-merger integration (PMI).”
