[Edaily Reporter Choi Oh-hyun ] Roh Tae-moon, CEO of SamsungElectronics and Head of the DX (Device Experience) Division, purchased 700 million won worth of the company’s shares. This move is seen as a demonstration of management’s commitment to responsible leadership by directly buying shares amid a declining stock price. (Photo: SamsungElectronics) According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system on the 31st, CEO Noh purchased 3,045 shares of SamsungElectronics stock on the 30th at 230,000 won per share. The total purchase amount was 700,035,000 won. With this purchase, CEO Noh’s holdings of SamsungElectronics stock increased from 121,235 shares to 124,280 shares.
The total market value of President Noh’s SamsungElectronics shares was calculated at 32.6235 billion won based on that day’s closing price. The market value, which stood at around 26 billion won in early May, has risen significantly thanks to additional purchases and a rise in the stock price.
Recently, SamsungElectronics has been working to drive a revaluation of its stock price by strengthening its competitiveness in high-bandwidth memory (HBM)—a core component of AI semiconductors—and by revitalizing its foundry business. President Noh’s latest purchase of company stock is interpreted as a move demonstrating management’s confidence in improved earnings and a recovery in the stock price.
SamsungElectronics’ stock price hit an all-time high of 374,500 won during trading on the 19th of last month, but recently fell to 207,000 won during trading the previous day due to factors such as a correction in the KOSPI and a decline in semiconductor investment sentiment.
However, as major semiconductor stocks such as NVIDIA showed strength on the New York Stock Exchange overnight, improving investor sentiment, SamsungElectronics closed at 262,500 won today—up 55,500 won (26.81%) from the previous trading day.
SamsungElectronics’ top executives have continued to buy back company shares, believing the stock is undervalued and as part of their commitment to responsible management. In particular, even when SamsungElectronics’ stock price remained in a trading range of 50,000 to 60,000 won in 2024, the company’s presidents and key executives made successive purchases of company shares in an effort to restore shareholder confidence.
Earlier, SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won also purchased approximately 4.8 billion won worth of SK hynix shares on the open market in the spirit of responsible management. According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system, Chairman Choi purchased 3,620 shares of SK hynix common stock on the 30th at an average price of 1,353,677 won per share. The following day, on the 31st, SK hynix’s stock price hit both its daily high and low, increasing the paper profit to 1,318,850,000 won just one day after the purchase.
