[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] GS25, a convenience store chain operated by GS Retail(007070), announced on the 2nd that it will exclusively launch “Chun-sik’s Kobuk Chips: Sweet Potato Tanghulu Flavor” in collaboration with ORION(271560).
The Chun-sik Kobuk Chips Sweet Potato Tanghulu Flavor, available starting the 6th, came about through a proposal by GS Holdings. GS Holdings determined that Kobuk Chips, having expanded overseas thanks to their crispy four-layered texture, possess a unique competitive edge capable of appealing to both domestic and international customers. The product will go on sale at GS The Fresh supermarkets starting the 10th.
The new product was designed with sweet potato—a flavor familiar to people of all ages—as its main theme. Recognizing the growing importance of texture, the chips incorporate the uniquely crispy and sweet texture of tanghulu. To further differentiate the product, the packaging prominently features “Chun-sik,” a Kakao Friends character known for his love of sweet potatoes.
Previously, products launched through collaborations between GS25 and food companies—such as “Kkokkal Corn Ma Seong Ok-su Flavor,” ORION’s “Mitsu Black Yogurt,” Seoul Milk’s dessert series, and Nongshim’s Banana Kick dessert series—gained popularity by topping their respective sales charts. For GS Holdings, this approach offers the advantage of leveraging proven mega-brands to generate buzz and boost sales, while food companies can test new products and expand their brand reach.
Lee Jin-woo, a Merchandising Director (MD) on the Processed Foods Team at GS25, said, “GS25 is continuously expanding its collaborative model of planning new products with food companies based on sales data and consumer trend analysis.” He added, “We will continue to introduce differentiated products that combine new concepts with mega-brands familiar to consumers to provide fresh experiences.”
