"A New Face Unveiled for the First Time in 10 Years"... The Most Unfamiliar: Artemis [Interview]
Making a Comeback After 1 Year and 2 Months with "Hyper-Ego"
Worldviews Are Expanding, Music Is Becoming More Mainstream
"First Place Is Great, But… We Want to Raise Artemis’s Profile"
[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] “I wondered if we could actually pull this off. But now, I’d like to hear people say, ‘Artemis can make music like this, too.’” Artemis (Photo: Mode House) The group Artemis (ARTMS—Jinsol, Choi Ri, Heejin, Kim Lip) has boldly shed its previous image. They’ve expanded their artistic universe and refined their music to appeal to a broader audience. Their new album, *Hyper-Ego*, which they themselves describe as their “biggest challenge,” is a declaration of their intent to showcase new possibilities while maintaining the musical identity they’ve built over the years. According to their agency, Mode House, on the 7th, ARTMS released their new album *Hyper-Ego* at 1:00 p.m. that day. This marks their first new album in a full year and two months. Led by the double title tracks “Born Stunner” and “Blue Blood,” this album expands upon the universe established by “Virtual Angel” and “Icarus.” The members of Artemis described this album as “one that broadens our universe while expressing diverse aspects of our selves.” They emphasized that “Blue Blood” in particular embodies distinct selves and identities, and expressed confidence that listeners will enjoy discovering different charms in each track. Artemis (Photo: Mode House) The biggest change for Artemis lies in their music. The pre-release track “Born Stunner” features a powerful bassline, a fast-paced arrangement, and rap at the forefront. Despite being a group without a dedicated rapper, they took on the challenge of full-fledged rapping in the title track; the members revealed that it was a difficult challenge, so much so that they even took separate lessons during the recording process. However, they stated that they gained confidence after the stage performance, as fans responded with comments like, “A new side we haven’t seen in 10 years.” The double title track “Blue Blood” showcases another side of the group. Built on a fast tempo blending hyperpop and J-Core, the song maximizes the vocalists’ charm while capturing the essence of summer. The Artemis members explained, “It’s a song you can listen to without any pressure, whether you’re commuting to work or on your way to school,” adding, “You’ll be able to feel both the excitement and Artemis’s signature dreamy atmosphere.” This promotional run is taking place while Hasul is unable to join the group on stage due to shoulder surgery. However, Hasul participated in the entire album production process, including the narration for the intro track, album concept meetings, and discussions on music video ideas. The members emphasized, “We consider this an album created by all five of us, not just the four of us.” Artemis (Photo: Mode House) Since their debut, Artemis has consistently presented music centered around their unique universe. The members said, “We enjoy seeing fans analyze and interpret our universe as if it were a movie series,” adding, “Showing how our universe expands with each album release is a key part of our group’s identity.” However, this time they aimed to appeal more broadly to the general public. The Artemis members explained, “We wanted to create music that more people could naturally hum along to, while still maintaining the style that our existing core fans love.” Their goal is clear. While digital sales rankings and topping music show charts are important, their top priority is to make the name “Artemis” stick in the minds of more people. The members agreed, saying, “There are still many people who think of ‘LOONA’ first,” and added, “Through this promotion, we want to raise awareness of the name ‘Artemis’ itself.” Their comeback will also mark the start of a world tour. Artemis plans to kick off their new world tour, “Art of Blue Blood,” on the 5th and 6th of next month at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, before expanding their performances to the U.S. and Europe. The members stated, “This year will be a year focused on Artemis’s activities,” and hinted at upcoming meetings with global fans.
