[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] On the 10th, the Korea Aerospace Administration held the “9th Aerospace SOS Roundtable” at Rebellion, where it met with industry representatives involved in space data center technology.

This roundtable was held to assess the technical capabilities of the domestic industry and identify support measures requested by the industry in order to ensure the successful development of a Korean-style space data center. The goal is to formulate policies to attract non-space companies, such as AI and ICT firms, into the space industry.
“Space Data Center Construction” is a space mission under the K-Moonshot initiative. In the era of artificial intelligence (AI), it aims to secure core technologies for space data centers and validate them in space. In particular, it plans to establish a foundation for space utilization by building an industry-led supply chain for core technologies—such as AI semiconductors and solar cells—intended for use in space.
Representatives from a total of 17 companies attended the roundtable, including six AI fabless companies, four companies in the power sector (such as solar cells and batteries), two companies in the cooling technology sector, and five satellite system development companies.
HANWHA SOLUTIONS(009830)The companies in attendance were Asia Pacific Satellite Inc., Eyenix, KAI, LG Energy Solution(373220), LGELECTRONICS(066570), LIG D&A, SK hynix(000660), Doowon Heavy Industries, DeepX, Lampers, Rebellion, Mobilint, Satrec Initiative Co., Ltd., HANWHA SYSTEMS, and Q-Cell.
The Korea Aerospace Administration and the K-Moonshot Task Force of the National Research Council of Science and Technology presented the current status of the K-Moonshot space mission, listened to various on-site opinions from the industry, and discussed ways to collaborate.
They also proposed that, to facilitate entry into the space industry, the following measures are necessary: △ support for the verification of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components such as semiconductors; △ support for space environment testing under extreme conditions; and △ the provision of opportunities for space demonstration through verification satellites.
Oh Tae-seok, Administrator of the Korea Aerospace Administration, stated, “We will carefully review the opinions discussed at this meeting and reflect them in the direction and detailed strategies for the Space Data Center, and we will actively support the expansion of artificial intelligence across the entire space industry ecosystem.”
