[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] Rainbow Robotics(277810)nearly doubled its revenue in the second quarter of this year. Amid increased sales to SamsungElectronics, mobile humanoids accounted for 40% of total first-half revenue, emerging as the company’s top revenue-generating product category.

According to a regulatory filing on the 14th, Rainbow Robotics’ second-quarter revenue reached 12.31417 billion won, a 97.9% increase year-over-year. During the same period, the operating loss narrowed by 1.4% to 2.02769 billion won. As revenue nearly doubled, the operating loss ratio improved from 33.1% to 16.5%.

Cumulative revenue for the first half of the year was 21.37667 billion won, while the operating loss was 3.59477 billion won.

Mobile humanoids drove this revenue growth. Revenue from mobile humanoids in the first half totaled 8.65289 billion won, accounting for 40.48% of total revenue. Revenue from collaborative robots was 4.50507 billion won (21.05%), and revenue from other robots was 6.62425 billion won (30.99%).

Business with SamsungElectronics also increased. Rainbow Robotics’ second-quarter revenue from SamsungElectronics was approximately 3.26475 billion won, a 35.3% increase from the first quarter’s 2.41361 billion won.

Rainbow Robotics stated that it is capable of producing an average of 900 units of its RB Series collaborative robots and approximately 120 mobile humanoids annually.

The supply chain for core components has also changed. Rainbow Robotics stated that, whereas it had sourced Harmonic Drive reducers from Japanese and Chinese suppliers in the first quarter, it is now primarily sourcing them from a domestic Company B. The company explained that unit prices are stabilizing thanks to the adoption of domestically produced components.

The company is pursuing in-house production not only of finished products but also of core drive components for humanoid robots. Rainbow Robotics has developed prototypes of high-power QDD actuators, motors, and gearboxes and completed verification of their basic performance. The company plans to design and manufacture these core drive components in-house to reduce mass production costs.

The company is also expanding its research and development efforts. This year, it has newly joined the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Intelligent Surgical Robot project to develop an AI surgical nursing assistant robot and a robotic arm for laparoscopic surgery assistance. The long-term goal is to expand the technology into autonomous surgery.

The company also began participating this year in the Ministry of Science and ICT’s on-device AI project. It is equipping a quadruped robot with an on-device AI compiler to run AI models and verify functionality.

Rainbow Robotics stated in its report, “We plan to expand the application of mobile humanoids in industrial settings and pursue commercialization in stages.”
