ROBOTIS Rides the ‘Humanoid Boom,’ Q2 Operating Profit Up 723%
98% of Sales Come from Actuators… Growing Demand for Humanoid Robot Components
Second-Quarter Revenue of 15.4 Billion Won… Up 95% Year-Over-Year
Revenue from the Chinese market rose to about three times the previous quarter’s level
AI Sapiens and Dynamixel-Q to Be Officially Launched in the Second Half of the Year
[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] ROBOTIS(108490)reported a significant increase in revenue and operating profit for the second quarter of this year, driven by growing demand for humanoid robots, particularly in China. While the majority of revenue currently comes from actuators—which function as the joints of robots—the share of revenue from the Chinese market also increased approximately threefold compared to the previous quarter.
According to a regulatory filing on the 14th, ROBOTIS’ second-quarter revenue reached 15.37213 billion won, a 95.1% increase year-over-year. Operating profit for the same period was 1.98107 billion won, up 722.9% year-over-year. ROBOTIS supplies “Dynamixel” as its flagship product, which integrates a motor, gear reducer, controller, and communication functions into a single module.
ROBOTIS’ actuator sales for the first half of this year totaled 26,665,460,000 won, accounting for 97.99% of total consolidated revenue. Sales of autonomous robots amounted to 548,000,000 won, representing 2.01% of the total.
Growth was particularly notable in the Chinese market. In its semi-annual report, ROBOTIS stated that the share of revenue from the Chinese market in the second quarter rose approximately threefold compared to the first quarter. To strengthen its penetration of the local market, the company’s Chinese branch, which had been temporarily closed, resumed operations in February of this year.
This is believed to be driven by increased demand for core components, such as actuators, as global humanoid robot manufacturers—including those in China—begin preparations for mass production. ROBOTIS explained that, based on certifications such as the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval, it is also targeting demand for substitutes for Chinese-made parts in the North American market.
ROBOTIS is expanding its existing actuator business to include products dedicated to humanoids. In the second half of this year, the company plans to officially launch “Dynamixel-Q,” a quasi-direct-drive (QDD) actuator designed specifically for humanoids that features high torque and high responsiveness.
Dynamixel-Q is a product specialized for humanoid locomotion and joint actuation, and ENCell Co., Ltd. plans to begin mass production at its manufacturing facility in Uzbekistan starting in 2027.
The company is also ramping up its business in fully assembled humanoids. It plans to officially launch the bipedal humanoid “AI Sapiens,” unveiled last April, alongside the Dynamixel-Q in the second half of this year.
The strategy for “AI Sapiens” is to expand it into a research and industrial platform that universities, research institutions, and companies can freely utilize by releasing its mechanical design and core control code as open source.
Investments for mass production are also underway. ROBOTIS is investing in facilities to establish mass production systems for its fully developed humanoid and Dynamixel-Q, and expects the resulting expansion in production capacity and sales growth to become fully evident starting in early 2027.
In its report, ROBOTIS stated, “We will secure a leading position in the supply chains of North American and global robot manufacturers and Big Tech companies by supplying high-end actuators equipped with quasi-direct drive technology,” adding, “We will work to establish data and platform standards in the research and industrial humanoid robot market centered on AI Sapiens.”
