[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] A budget mobile plan from LG Uplus(032640)and Toss Mobile that combines the facial recognition payment service “FacePay” is gaining popularity, particularly among people in their 20s and 30s.

LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it is expanding its promotion of lifestyle-oriented partnership plans with Toss Mobile on its MVNO integrated platform, “Al.dot.”

Among subscribers to the “FacePay Partnership Plan” launched by Toss Mobile earlier this month, those in their 20s and 30s accounted for 56%. This means that within just two weeks of its launch, more than half of the subscribers were from this age group.

LG Uplus analyzed that young consumers, who are familiar with mobile finance and convenient payment services, showed interest in products that combine mobile service plans with benefits applicable to their daily lives.

Five Plans
Based on Data Usage… FacePay Coupons Also Provided
The FacePay partnership plans consist of five options based on data
usage
: 7GB+, 10GB+, 71GB+, 100 Minutes·15GB+, and 100GB+.

During the promotional period, subscribers can use the service for between 8,000 and 16,000 won per month for the first seven months after sign-up. Voice calls and text messages are included as standard depending on the plan, and the “100 Minutes·15GB+” plan provides 100 minutes of voice calls.

Subscribers will receive a FacePay coupon worth 2,000 won every month for up to 24 months, starting two months after the month of activation. An additional coupon worth 10,000 won will also be issued four months after activation. By taking full advantage of these benefits, subscribers can receive FacePay payment benefits worth up to 58,000 won.

FacePay is a service that allows users to make payments at participating stores using only facial recognition—without a smartphone or wallet—after registering their face and payment method in advance. Since there’s no need to take out a card or open a payment app, users can use the service even while grocery shopping or carrying items in both hands.

Through this partnership, LG Uplus expects the competitiveness of its MVNO plans to extend beyond simply lowering communication costs to include services and benefits that customers can tangibly experience in their daily lives.

Al.dot also offers Toss Mobile’s “Toss X CU” plan. Customers who sign up by the end of this month can receive a 20% discount on purchases at CU brick-and-mortar stores, up to 5,000 won per month. They can also earn up to 5% in points, including CU membership rewards, and these partnership benefits are available for up to 24 months after sign-up.

LG Uplus plans to continue expanding partnership offerings that combine budget mobile services with services customers frequently use in their daily lives, such as payments and retail.

Park Dae-yong, Head of the MVNO Business at LG Uplus, said, “Demand for differentiated services that enhance the customer experience is growing even in the budget mobile market,” adding, “We will expand our collaboration with various partners to introduce products and benefits that provide tangible value to customers’ daily lives beyond just telecommunications.”

Al.dot is an integrated platform where users can compare and sign up for rate plans and benefits from various U+ network-based budget mobile carriers in one place. Recently, it has been expanding its service scope beyond simple comparison of communication rates to include each carrier’s partnership products and promotions.
