[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] SK hynix plummeted nearly 10% during regular trading on the 19th, but after the market closed, the company announced a shareholder return plan—including the repurchase and cancellation of treasury stock worth 40 trillion won—and the stock quickly recovered in after-hours trading, narrowing its losses to around 3%.

According to MP Doctor, as of 4:12 p.m. that day, SK hynix(000660)was trading at 1.6 million won, down 62,000 won (3.73%) from the previous session’s close. Earlier, SK hynix closed regular trading at 1.5 million won, down 162,000 won (9.75%) from the previous day. Immediately after the market closed, the shareholder return plan was announced, causing the stock to rebound in after-hours trading to 1.6 million won—100,000 won higher than the regular session’s closing price—thereby narrowing the loss by about 6 percentage points.
At the same time, SamsungElectronics(005930)also traded at 254,500 won, down 14,000 won (5.21%) from the previous session, narrowing its decline compared to the regular session. SamsungElectronics closed the regular session at 247,500 won, down 21,000 won (7.82%).
After the market closed that day, SK hynix announced a shareholder return plan to acquire a total of 40 trillion won worth of its own shares and cancel them in their entirety. Based on the previous day’s closing price of 1,662,000 won, the acquisition volume amounts to approximately 24.07 million shares, representing about 3.3% of the total issued shares (730,492,365 shares). This is the largest share buyback and cancellation by a domestic listed company to date.
The planned acquisition period is three months, from the 20th of this month through November 19, and the company intends to cancel all shares upon completion of the acquisition.
In addition, SK hynix announced a new shareholder return policy to return more than 50% of its free cash flow (FCF) to shareholders over the next three years.
