[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.(384470)has partnered with Optellum, a global medical AI company specializing in lung cancer, to expand the scope of its AI-based lung nodule detection business from simple detection to risk assessment and patient management. This collaboration is noteworthy as it expands Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s access to the North American lung cancer care workflow market.

Integrating AI with Optelum’s ‘LungOS’… Taking on the ‘First Step’ in U.S. Lung Nodule Care

According to the medical AI industry on the 20th, Coreline Soft Co., Ltd. expressed its intent to collaborate with Optelum to expand AI cooperation in the fields of lung cancer and thoracic medicine, with a focus on the lung nodule diagnostic pathway.

The two companies plan to integrate Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved computer-aided detection (CAD) software for lung nodules, “AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD,” with Optelum’s AI-based thoracic care platform, “LungOS.”

Optelum is a medical AI company based in Oxford, UK, specializing in lung nodule risk assessment and patient management, with a presence at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, USA. Through its flagship products, “Virtual Nodule Clinic” (VNC) and “Lung Cancer Prediction AI” (LCP), the company analyzes the cancer risk of patients with lung nodules and supports the prioritization of high-risk patients and their follow-up care.

Previously, on the 13th (local time), Optelum announced plans to collaborate with Coreline Soft Co., Ltd. to integrate Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s FDA-approved lung nodule detection capabilities into its LungOS platform. If this collaboration materializes, Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s technology will handle the “detection” function—the starting point of patient care—on Optelum’s U.S. lung nodule care platform.

From Lung Nodule Detection to Risk Assessment and Follow-up Management

Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s role is to identify lung nodules in chest CT scans. Subsequently, Optelum’s computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) system assesses the likelihood of malignancy in the nodules, sets treatment priorities based on each patient’s risk level, and connects patients to follow-up care. When the two companies’ technologies are integrated, they can establish a single clinical workflow that progresses from “lung nodule detection → risk assessment → priority setting → follow-up care.”

Once a pulmonary nodule is detected, its size and shape must be analyzed to assess the likelihood of lung cancer, and patients must be referred for further testing, follow-up observation, or specialized care based on their risk level. In particular, patients in whom pulmonary nodules are incidentally discovered during chest CT scans performed for other purposes are not typically managed as part of a lung cancer screening program and are therefore at risk of being overlooked during the follow-up process. It is reported that more than 1.6 million people in the United States have incidental pulmonary nodules detected each year.

Optelum’s VNC has been approved in the United States and Australia for the management of incidentally discovered pulmonary nodules, and has secured the necessary approvals in the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland to be used for both screening-detected and incidentally discovered pulmonary nodules. In the U.S., LCP is also linked to the insurance reimbursement system. Optelum is expanding these functions through its LungOS platform to build an integrated lung cancer care system that connects everything from the detection of pulmonary nodules to risk assessment and patient management.

Moving Beyond the Sale of a Single AI Product to a Platform… Boosting Business Competitiveness ↑
From Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s perspective, this collaboration means more than just a simple technological partnership. While the company previously focused on a standalone product business—directly supplying the AView Lung NODE CAD to hospitals—if this collaboration materializes, it will be able to expand into a platform-based business model that integrates its AI into the actual clinical workflow of local hospitals through Optelum’s LungOS. The structure involves integrating Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s detection technology into the lung nodule risk assessment and patient management platform that Optelum has built for U.S. healthcare institutions.

Recently, the medical AI market has also seen its focus shift from competition based on individual algorithms to competition centered on platforms that encompass the entire clinical care process. Whereas in the past, the key focus was on how accurately specific lesions could be detected and diagnosed, business competitiveness is now increasingly determined by the ability to integrate different functions—such as detection, diagnosis, patient classification, and follow-up care—into a single clinical workflow. This is because, from a hospital’s perspective, AI can go beyond serving merely as a standalone diagnostic aid to directly contribute to actual patient management and improved clinical efficiency.

Coreline Soft Co., Ltd. has accumulated experience in lung cancer screening based on chest CT by participating in major lung cancer screening projects such as Germany’s “HANSE,” France’s “IMPULSION,” and Italy’s “RISP.” AVIEW has been used in over 3 million real-world clinical cases across more than 300 institutions in 19 countries.

Kim Jin-guk, CEO of Coreline Soft Co., Ltd., stated, “We will integrate Coreline Soft Co., Ltd.’s accumulated experience in chest CT-based lung nodule detection and lung cancer screening workflows with Optelum’s lung nodule risk assessment and management workflows,” adding, “We expect this to contribute to a more efficient and scalable lung cancer care model.”
