This exercise is a government-wide disaster drill in which central government agencies, local governments, fire and forestry authorities, and private companies review their response systems under the scenario of a large-scale wildfire.
KTCorporation activated its emergency communication network under the scenario of communication facilities being damaged by a wildfire and assessed whether communication disruptions occurred and the extent of the damage. The company also reviewed the process of sharing real-time situation updates between headquarters and the field, as well as coordinating with group companies and partners.
In particular, the company simultaneously operated mobile base station vehicles from both the Disaster Safety Communications Network and the commercial network. The Disaster Safety Communications Network supports communications for relevant agencies—such as fire and forestry departments—deployed to the scene, while the commercial network’s mobile base stations are used to provide emergency communications for residents in the affected areas and to restore general communication services.
Through this drill, KTCorporation reviewed its overall response system—from emergency communications support to network restoration—in the event of a large-scale wildfire and strengthened its on-site response capabilities in preparation for actual disaster situations.
Hwang Kyung-hee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Eastern Network Operations Headquarters at KTCorporation’s Network Division, stated, “Rapid on-site response and recovery capabilities are crucial for providing stable communication services even during disasters.” She added, “We will continue to enhance our response capabilities by strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure the public experiences no inconvenience in using communication services when disasters occur.”
