[Edaily Reporter Son Eui-Yeon ] Director Christopher Nolan’s film “The Martian” surpassed 7 million viewers on the 23rd. This marks an additional 1 million viewers in just two days since the film surpassed 6 million on the 21st.
This pace matches that of “Spider-Man: A Brand New Day,” which set the record for reaching 7 million viewers in the shortest time this year, and is also identical to the pace of director Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece “Interstellar.”
Furthermore, it is outpacing the domestic blockbusters “The Man Who Lives with the King” (which surpassed 7 million on its 24th day in theaters) and “Spring in Seoul” (which surpassed 7 million on its 20th day in theaters), both of which drew over 10 million viewers.
As the film enters its fourth week in theaters, it continues its box office run, and all eyes are on its future performance.
As of today, “The Odyssey” ranks first with a ticket pre-sale rate of 71%. It took the top spot with a seat occupancy rate of 60.0% during its second weekend (August 14–16), and on the 21st—despite being in its third week—ticket pre-sales exceeded 750,000, indicating that audience enthusiasm remains strong.
“The Odyssey” has surpassed $1.34 billion (approximately 1.8678 trillion won) in worldwide box office revenue, overtaking “Deadpool and Wolverine” ($1.33 billion) to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
The film industry is highlighting this as an especially significant achievement, given that the film is based on an ancient epic rather than a superhero sequel or an existing popular intellectual property (IP).
Critics credit director Christopher Nolan’s unique vision and the film’s overwhelming scale as key factors in its success.
Meanwhile, *The Odyssey* depicts the epic saga of Odysseus, the hero who led the Trojan War to victory, as he battles the wrath of the gods to return home. Nolan directed, wrote, and produced the film, which stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
