[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Asia Pacific Satellite Inc.(211270)announced on the 24th that it has completed the delivery of data link modems for the “Second Phase of the Baekdu System Capability Enhancement Project.”

The Baekdu System Capability Enhancement Phase 2 Project is a defense capability improvement initiative aimed at developing a signal intelligence collection system with enhanced performance based on domestic technology to replace the existing Baekdu system. The project, with a budget of approximately 800 billion won, is being carried out from 2021 to 2026.

KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES (KAI) is responsible for system integration, while LIG D&A is in charge of developing mission equipment and the data link system. Asia Pacific Satellite Inc. handled the entire process—from development to manufacturing, testing, and supply—of the data link modems.

The data link modem delivered this time is a communication device that converts transmitted and received data into signals suitable for wireless transmission, ensuring stable information exchange between airborne and ground systems, and then restores the received signals. This is an example of Asia Pacific Satellite Inc. applying the data link technology it has accumulated in the fields of satellites and military satellite communications to an airborne surveillance and reconnaissance system.

Asia Pacific Satellite Inc. possesses the technology to design, manufacture, and validate on-board data links (DLS) that transmit large volumes of data collected by satellites to ground stations. The company also participated in the development of an X-band data link for the Multipurpose Practical Satellite No. 6, gaining experience in high-speed data transmission and equipment reliability required for satellite onboard environments.

Going forward, the company plans to advance its data link and modem technologies while expanding its scope of application into convergence projects that integrate satellite communications and defense technologies.
