[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] SamsungElectronics will begin manufacturing its "EHS Heat Pump Boiler," previously produced overseas, domestically. In line with the government’s policy to electrify heating, the company plans to secure an annual production capacity of over 100,000 units and accelerate the expansion of the domestic heat pump market.

SamsungElectronics announced on the 24th that it has established a 2,132-square-meter production line for EHS heat pump boilers at Campus 2 of its Gwangju Business Site in the Gwangju-Jeonnam Metropolitan City and began trial production on the 19th. After verifying process stability and product performance, full-scale mass production will begin at the end of September.

Among heat pump companies participating in the government’s heating electrification initiative, SamsungElectronics is the first to relocate its overseas production line to Korea. The new production line has an annual capacity of over 100,000 units, all of which will be supplied to the domestic market.

SamsungElectronics plans to go beyond simply manufacturing finished products and gradually increase the domestic share of core components and key manufacturing processes. The company aims to strengthen its supply chain by expanding the participation of domestic partners and contribute to the local economy in Gwangju.

The Gwangju plant is a key hub that has long produced SamsungElectronics’ premium home appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. SamsungElectronics will leverage the production technology and quality control capabilities accumulated at this site to strengthen its integrated response system, spanning development, manufacturing, and quality control. The company also plans to quickly incorporate the needs of domestic consumers and changes in living environments into its products.

The EHS Heat Pump Boiler uses heat extracted from the outside air and electricity to provide heating and hot water. Under conditions where the outlet water temperature is 35°C, it can generate heat equivalent to approximately five times the electrical energy input. It is more energy-efficient and produces fewer carbon emissions than conventional boilers that burn fossil fuels. When connected to solar power systems installed in homes, it can also help reduce electricity bills.

Along with domestic production, the company is expanding its distribution and demonstration projects. SamsungElectronics supplied products for the Jeju Island heating electrification project this year and plans to participate in the second phase of the project, covering 1,418 households, which will take place in the second half of the year.

In Yangpyeong, Chungju, and Namhae, the company is verifying heating and hot water performance as well as energy efficiency based on regional climates and housing types. On Jeju Island and at the SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION Residential Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, the “EHS All-in-One” system—which provides cooling, heating, and hot water in a single unit—is currently being tested. This research aims to apply heat pumps not only to single-family homes but also to multi-unit housing such as apartments.

Lim Seong-taek, Vice President of SamsungElectronics’ DA Business Division, stated, “By establishing a domestic production system for heat pump products, we will respond more proactively to the trend toward electrification of heating and accelerate the expansion of our heat pump business.” He added, “We will continue to introduce solutions optimized for the Korean residential environment by combining the heat pump technology we have accumulated in the global market with our domestic manufacturing and service competitiveness.”
