[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] Sky Worldwide (Bitnine Co, Ltd.(357880)), a company specializing in AI agents and database (DB) solutions, announced on the 24th that the physical AI industrial synthetic data generation technology of its affiliate, Sky Intelligence, was featured in the JTBC special documentary “Korea’s Gamble—Physical AI.”
Aired on the 23rd, the documentary explored South Korea’s competitive edge—based on its capabilities in semiconductor production, robotics manufacturing, and software development—as the country enters the era of Physical AI. In particular, it highlighted the challenge of securing training data as a key issue in the commercialization of Physical AI.
With Physical AI and robots, recognition and motion performance can vary depending on changes in the surrounding environment, such as lighting or object locations. Since training systems to account for all these variables in real-world environments is time-consuming and costly, synthetic data technology—which creates training data in virtual environments—is being utilized as an alternative.
The broadcast introduced Sky Intelligence’s synthetic data generation technology and infrastructure, as well as a data center cable routing project currently being conducted in collaboration with Seoul National University. Cables are considered a highly challenging field because they are flexible objects whose shape constantly changes, requiring robots to perceive their surroundings and perform tasks accordingly.
Sky Intelligence possesses technology based on digital twin technology that models real-world physical elements—such as friction coefficients and lighting—as mathematical parameters in a virtual environment, thereby generating data that enables physical AI to learn in 3D and 6D spaces.
Situations where it is difficult to obtain sufficient data in real-world environments—such as components with scratches, contamination, or deformation—can also be simulated in a virtual environment. The company is also developing technology that utilizes NVIDIA Omniverse-based digital twins to replicate industrial site conditions, including materials, lighting, and camera settings, while automating processes from synthetic data generation to labeling.
Through this, the company plans to implement a “Real-to-Sim-to-Real” data loop that connects real-world data to the virtual environment and back to real-world application.
In the documentary, Lee Jae-cheol, CEO of Sky Intelligence, stated, “We call data that can be computed, tracked, and reused—and that can be immediately fed to physical AI for instant learning—‘synthetic data for training.’” He added, “It’s not just about generation; what’s important is building a data infrastructure that creates a complete data loop to resolve bottlenecks in physical AI.”
Shin Jae-hyuk, CEO of Sky E-WORLD, explained, “The true asset of Korea’s manufacturing industry lies in the know-how possessed by skilled workers, but when these skilled workers retire, that expertise is lost.” He added, “It is crucial to preserve this knowledge for the industry by converting it into data and passing it on to robots.”
Sky E-WORLD operates a business providing AI agents and DB solutions based on graph database (GDB) technology. Its affiliate, Sky Intelligence, has signed a framework agreement with ABB Robotics and is also conducting joint research on robot vision technology with the AI Research Institute (AIIS) at Seoul National University.
