[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] The KOSPI opened lower. Overnight on the New York Stock Exchange, semiconductor stocks fell in unison amid caution ahead of NVIDIA’s earnings announcement, and domestic semiconductor stocks appear to be following suit.
According to MP Doctor on the 25th, as of 9:08 a.m., the KOSPI is trading at 6,463.30, down 3.49% (233.66 points) from the previous trading day.
Overnight, the New York stock market closed mixed. On the 24th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average—which tracks blue-chip stocks—closed at 53,417.16, up 0.26% from the previous trading day. The S&P 500 Index, a benchmark for large-cap stocks, finished down 0.28% at 7,652.86. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index closed down 0.76% at 25,980.19.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, noted, “The macroeconomic environment has improved somewhat, as the sharp rise in U.S. Treasury yields has subsided and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices are showing weakness. Additionally, there is a possibility of bargain-hunting, particularly in semiconductor stocks that plummeted the previous day.”
In the stock market, foreign investors are selling 628.8 billion won worth of shares, while retail and institutional investors are buying 526.0 billion won and 55.9 billion won worth, respectively. Program trading shows a net purchase of 425.5 billion won, combining both arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades.
By sector, manufacturing and medical/precision equipment are down by around 3%, while chemicals, pharmaceuticals, securities, finance, telecommunications, and retail are down by more than 1%. In contrast, electricity and gas, as well as paper and wood, are showing slight gains.
Among the top market-cap stocks, declines are predominant, with SK hynix(000660)and SKSQUARE(402340)falling more than 5%. SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)is down in the 4% range, and SamsungElectronics(005930)is down more than 3%. LG Energy Solution(373220) and Samsung Life Insurance(032830) are down in the 2% range. In contrast, DOOSAN ENERBILITY(034020) and ShinhanFinancialGroup Co.,Ltd.(055550) are up in the 1% range, while HANWHA AEROSPACE(012450), HyundaiMotor(005380), and KB Financial Group(105560) are showing slight gains.
The KOSDAQ market is currently trading at 790.00, down 2.87% (23.33 points) from the previous trading day. Among the top-market-cap stocks, declines are predominant, with ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520) and ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540) falling more than 6%.
