Index Fell to the 6,400 Level During the Session but Recovered Its Losses

[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] The KOSPI, which had plummeted by as much as 4% during the session, is narrowing its losses in the afternoon. As the declines in SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660)have significantly narrowed, the index appears to be recovering some of its losses. According to MP Doctor on the 25th, as of 1:57 p.m., the KOSPI is trading at 6,664.95, down 0.48% (32.01 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened lower at 6,535.93 today and fell as low as 6,408.82 during the session, but has recovered most of its losses in the afternoon. Kang Jin-hyuk, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, explained, “Although the market opened lower due to weakness in semiconductor stocks, it recovered to the 6,600 level as rotational buying, led by large-cap stocks, flowed in.” On the stock market, foreign investors are selling 2.9447 trillion won worth of shares, while retail investors and institutions are buying 970.4 billion won and 693.4 billion won worth, respectively. Program trading shows a net sell of 1.9731 trillion won, combining both arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades. Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, noted, “The macroeconomic environment has improved somewhat, as the sharp rise in U.S. Treasury yields has subsided and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices are showing weakness. Additionally, there is a possibility of bargain-hunting, particularly in semiconductor stocks that plummeted the previous day.” By sector, electricity, electronics, and telecommunications are down by around 1%, while entertainment and culture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, retail, and textiles and apparel are also showing declines. In contrast, the construction sector is surging by over 8%, and machinery and equipment are up by more than 5%. Paper and wood, as well as metals, are rising by around 2%, while securities and electricity and gas are up by more than 1%. Among the top-market-cap stocks, performance is mixed: DOOSAN ENERBILITY(034020)is surging by more than 8%, and ShinhanFinancialGroup Co.,Ltd.(055550)is up around 3%. KIA CORPORATION(000270)is rising by more than 2%, and KB Financial Group(105560) and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940) are up around 1%. On the other hand, SKSQUARE(402340)is down around 4%, and LG Energy Solution(373220)is falling by more than 3%. SK hynix(000660)and SamsungElectronics(005930)are down around 1%, and Samsung Life Insurance(032830) and SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260) are showing weakness. The KOSDAQ market is currently trading at 816.86, up 0.43% (3.53 points) from the previous trading day. While top-market-cap stocks are showing mixed performance, SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)is surging by over 8%. In contrast, Alteogen Inc.(196170)and ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540) are falling by around 4%.
