[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] The KOSPI, which had plummeted by as much as 4% early in the session, quickly recovered its losses in the afternoon and closed higher. The rebound was driven by major semiconductor stocks narrowing their losses: SamsungElectronics(005930), which had been weak during the session, recovered to trade flat, and SK hynix(000660)also turned higher.
According to MP Doctor on the 25th, the KOSPI closed at 6,742.74, up 0.68% (45.78 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened lower at 6,535.93 and fell as low as 6,408.82 during the session, but quickly recovered its losses in the afternoon and turned positive.
Kang Jin-hyuk, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, explained, “Although the market opened lower on a gap down due to weakness in semiconductor stocks, the index quickly recovered as rotational buying, centered on large-cap stocks, flowed in.”
On the stock market, foreign investors sold 3.8205 trillion won worth of shares, but retail and institutional investors drove the index higher by buying 1.0502 trillion won and 1.1728 trillion won worth of shares, respectively. Program trading showed a net sell of 2.6291 trillion won, combining both arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, analyzed, “The macroeconomic environment has improved somewhat, as the sharp rise in U.S. Treasury yields has subsided and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices have weakened. Additionally, bargain-hunting emerged, particularly in semiconductor stocks that had plummeted the previous day.”
By sector, construction jumped by over 8%, and machinery and equipment rose by more than 6%. Following these, electricity and gas, paper and wood, metals, and medical and precision instruments all rose by around 3%, while securities and other sectors gained more than 2%. In contrast, telecommunications and other sectors fell by around 1%, and pharmaceuticals, entertainment and culture, and IT services also declined.
Among the top market-cap stocks, gains were predominant, with DOOSAN ENERBILITY(034020)surging more than 10% on expectations of market expansion for new nuclear power plants in North America. Next, SamsungElectroMechanics(009150) and ShinhanFinancialGroup Co.,Ltd.(055550)jumped by around 3%, while KIA CORPORATION(000270) and KB Financial Group(105560) rose by more than 2%. HyundaiMotor(005380)rose by about 1%, and SK hynix(000660), SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260), and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)saw slight gains. SamsungElectronics(005930)closed flat. Conversely, LG Energy Solution(373220)fell by about 3%, and SKSQUARE(402340)dropped by more than 1%. HANWHA AEROSPACE(012450) and Samsung Life Insurance(032830) also saw slight declines.
On the KOSPI market, 647 stocks rose—including two that hit the daily upper price limit—while 226 stocks fell, including one that hit the daily lower price limit. Thirty-four stocks closed unchanged. Trading volume on the KOSPI totaled 282.78 million shares, with a total turnover of 23.697 trillion won.
The KOSDAQ market closed at 827.15, up 1.70% (13.82 points) from the previous trading day. Among the top-market-cap stocks, gains predominated, with SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)surging by over 11% and HPSP Co., Ltd.(403870)rising by more than 10%. Following these, JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(7.71%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(5.55%), and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(4.33%) also closed higher.
On the 25th, dealers are at work in the Hana Bank trading room in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, as the KOSPI successfully rebounded in just one day after yesterday’s sharp decline. On that day, the KOSPI closed at 6,742.74, up 45.78 points (0.68%) from the previous trading day, while the KOSDAQ closed at 827.15, up 13.82 points (1.70%) from the previous trading day.
