According to Netflix on the 26th, the new series “Halmae” is a noir action drama depicting the relentless revenge waged by “Jeong Suk-ja”—who takes up arms for her grandson—and “Seo Yeon-woo,” who awakens her hunting instincts, as they take on the criminal organization Cheonghwa Group. The series stands out for its unique and innovative premise—a woman in her 70s living an ordinary life who sets out to avenge her grandson—as well as its unpredictable plot twists as she unravels the secrets of the criminal organization she targets. From the nuanced relationship between Jeong Suk-ja and Seo Yeon-woo, who become partners in revenge, to the intricate narratives of the characters entangled with the Cheonghwa Group, the series promises a level of immersion and suspense unlike any other. Director Lee Kwon of “Killers’ Shopping Mall” is at the helm.
Lee Jung-eun takes on the role of “Jeong Suk-ja,” a woman who takes up arms for her grandson’s sake. Her life takes a 180-degree turn when her grandson—whom she raised alone while working at a restaurant—suddenly falls into a life-or-death situation after a mysterious attack. In response, Jeong Suk-ja decides to take revenge herself, picking up a gun for the first time in decades—a weapon she last held in her childhood. Lee Jung-eun, who has portrayed a wide range of characters across various genres—including last year’s top-grossing Korean film *Zombie Daughter*, as well as *The Lighting Store*, *The Woman Who Is Different Day and Night*, and *The Day My Luck Ran Out*—is taking on her first action role in *Grandma*, which is cited as a key highlight of the series.

Kim Mu-yeol takes on the role of “Seo Yeon-woo,” Jeong Suk-ja’s ally and the mastermind behind her revenge. He approaches Jeong Suk-ja—who is seething with grief and anger—and reveals the connection between her grandson’s accident and Cheonghwa Group, awakening her hunting instinct. While he assists her in her quest for revenge with his exceptional information-gathering skills and keen judgment, he is also a mysterious figure who seems to harbor ulterior motives. Kim Mu-yeol, who redefined his career with the Netflix series *True Education*—a recent global hit—is set to showcase even more intense action in this project. The two actors are reuniting for the first time in four years since *Youth Court*. Attention is focused on the chemistry they will display in this production.
Heo Jun-ho, who has made a strong impression through Netflix series such as *The Boy at the Back of the Class* and *The Square*, as well as the drama *Treasure Island*, takes on the role of “Jang Gwang-cheol,” the former leader of the Heukseong Gang and current chairman of Cheonghwa Group. Choi Seong-eun, known for the Netflix series “Annarasumanara,” the Netflix film “Rogiwan,” the film “Mad Dance Office,” and the drama “Monster,” will play “Shin Ji-hyun,” the head of Cheonghwa Group’s China branch and director of Action Team 3. Bae Na-ra, who has appeared in the Netflix series “The Wondercons,” “Weak Hero Class 2,” and “D.P.” Season 2, will join the cast as “Cheon Tae-seok,” the chief of staff at Cheonghwa Group and director of Action Team 2. Seo Hyun-woo, known for “Killers’ Shopping Mall,” “Honor: Women’s Court,” and “The Fiery Priest 2,” will play “Yoo Il-gu,” the maverick of Cheonghwa Group and director of Action Team 4, adding tension to the revenge drama unfolding between Jeong Sook-ja and Seo Yeon-woo. Additionally, Moon Jong-won, who has built a solid foundation through his versatile work in musicals and dramas, is set to shine as “Eom Sang-pil,” the owner of a guesthouse with a mysterious past.
With a cast of actors who have each established their own unique styles, anticipation for “Halmae” is growing.
